New Wii Zelda Well Into Development

Are you skeptical whether we’ll actually see another Wii Zelda next year? It’s not so crazy if you think about the parade of Link adventures that started in 2006 with Twilight princess. Since then we’ve seen annual entries in the series with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Another Zelda game would fit 2010’s bill quite nicely, and Eiji Aonuma confirms the game is deep in development.

Speaking with Official Nintendo Magazine, the creator of the recent Zelda titles said the game’s development studio was already cobbling together “scenarios, dungeon-making and so on.” Dear god cross your fingers for a hookshot or boomerang.

Speaking of the new game’s incorporation of MotionPlus tech, Aonuma said the team has “already got a very solid response.” Whether he is referring to focus testing responses or the fact that the MotionPlus actually makes the Wiimote responsive is unclear. Regardless, you may finally have a reason to buy one of the little gyroscopic add-ons when the new Zelda releases.

“You may be under the impression that we are still only in the early stages of development – [but] in fact we are well into the making of the game…,” Aonuma continues.

"Our team has been working on making the building blocks regarding the action – the scenarios, dungeon-making and so on. We are well underway.”

Finally, Aonuma shared his hopes of Nintendo sharing more about the game come 2010’s E3.

If this game is as far along as its creator suggests, we could potentially see a new Zelda game, Mario Galaxy 2, and Team Ninja’s Metroid game all in the same year. Sounds like an utterly stellar year for Nintendo and gamers in general.

  • Interesting. That's going to be one epic year, isn't it? Hard to beat Nintendo's core favorites.

  • I haven't dusted off my Wii in over a year, but Zelda would certainly provide me with a reason to do so again.

  • whoops i sold my wii a long time ago

  • Curses.  I don't want a Wii, but I don't want to miss these games...

  • Okay. I'm officially excited to 2010.

  • if Nintendo releases Zelda Wii, Mario Galaxy 2, AND Metroid Other M all in 2010, i guarantee the Wii will start selling like hotcakes again. these games combined with early releases like No more Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and other games that are likely to come out, its shaping up like a very good 2010 for Nintendo. as for Zelda Wii, give us some actual information!!!!!!! E3 cant come soon enough!

  • even if two of the three games they list at the end of this article hit shelves by 2010 it will be an epic year for Nintendo in the Market...then again every year for them is epic sales wise!lol

Either way this is great news to hear whilest wearing my LoZ t-shirt.lol\

    CAN'T FREAKIN WAIT!

  • i don't understand why it takes them so many years to make a console Zelda game. i mean, they use the same rehashed plot over and over, "Hyrule is plague by EVIL and the Princess (always named Zelda) kidnapped. Boy (always named Link but you can change it) on the outskirts of Hyrule is magically chosen by something and dons green clothing and a pointy hat. Master sword is acquired and you go to the castle. Kill the EVIL (always named Ganon). World Peace." Nintendo doesn't even implement voice acting into any Zelda games so why does it take so long to be released?! i can guarantee the game won't be out in 2010.

  • i hope u wont need motion plus to play this gaem

  • can't wait

  • @omega123 i personaly hope not

  • Hmm... a herald of Nintindo's coming back into the eye of the "hardcore" gamer?

  • Now this is a game I'm really looking forward to. Can't wait to see what they've done with the combat in this one. It'll be tight if they get the 1 to 1 mechanics down.

  • No one can compete with Nintendo's core favorites.  If they all come out in one year, the competition doesn't stand a chance.

  • I wonder if thats what the editor meant by all consoles having major releases on 2010?  haha well its a win win news for once

  • Every time I hear about that The Other M, I giggle like a girl!

  • Finally, some actual games for the Wii instead of the regular slew of casual crap.

  • I don't want to buy Nintendo's next system (I'll be getting PS4 and whatever the new Xbox is) so I hope I can play this on my amazingly disaponting Wii.

  • Wii's actually going to have a decent year software wise. It's a Christmas miracle! BTW, where's the new console Fire Emblem? Get on it Nintendo.

  • Nice a Hardcore year 4 the Wii....finally.
