See Harry Potter, Friends In Tiny Plastic Form

Warner Bros. Interactive has released the first trailer for its upcoming Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, and it's just about what you would expect. The characters look exactly like their Lego counterparts, and developer Traveller's Tales hasn't abandoned its whimsical sense of humor for edgier fare. This trailer highlights memorable scenes from the first book, including triple-headed dogs, centaurs and, of course, Hagrid.

  • Garbage ! ALL YOU COMPANIES PLEASE STOP WITH THIS CORNY STUFF !

    OK then.

  • This looks like fun.

  • haha... lol Sweet!

  • It can't be as bad as the actual HP games. Who knows, maybe the simplicity of the Lego brand is what's needed for a "good" Harry Potter game.

  • no...

  • My question is whether they're taking material from the books that wasn't in the movies.

  • lame...

  • The LEGO brand has been overused for the adventure games, sadly.  It's lost its luster after five or so years of the same thing.

  • I am still upset by this. Why waste the time to make a bad lego game for Harrys first four years. If the would have taken the time to develop this for the Ps3, 360, and Wii as a normal game I would have been excited for this. But I just hate legos!

  • First Star Wars then Indiana Jones and now Harry Potter, what's next Twilight Legos?

  • While I can't say the game will be good, it does look cute. But I am a pretty big Harry Potter fan...so there is that.

  • Using magic in HP will probably be similar to using the force in SW.

  • looks good

  • STOP with the LEGO games! Complete waste of time.

  • sorry, but the legos are done. all people use them for is achievements

  • Won't be buying this, but hopefully they add moments that didn't make it into the movies.

    @Meagan

I bet I'm a bigger Potter fan than you are. So...okay then.

  • While I'm rather tired of these Lego games, this does look like the best Harry Potter video game yet.

  • Uhm.. el paso (i'll pass-o)

  • I love the Harry Potter books. So does my girlfriend. My big fear now is that she will try to make me play this. We picked up the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones games because we both love those IPs as well, and we wanted a game we could play together in co-op mode.

While the cutesy factor and unlockable characters were (and still are) enough for her (she keeps separate save games just to solo when I'm playing on the PC), I'm generally frustrated by the unresponsive controls. Especially the camera control. The ability to swing the camera around more fully, which could really help on some of those more difficult jumps, would go a long way toward improving the experience. Instead the game just ends up just making me frustrated. I can't count the number of times that I've watched a Lego Harrison Ford of either the Indy or Han persuasion explode into plastic bits because he was dragged over the edge of a cliff when my girlfriend moved forward or attempted a jump. To me, it just isn't worth it.

But, to each their own. She loves them. She eyeballs the Lego Batman every time we go to Game Stop. And I'm sure she'll want this too. And I'll probably get it for her. But I doubt I'll join her in playing. Unless she makes me. Which she probably will.

    *** you Warner Bros.!
