The lights are on
The latest iteration in Microsoft's sim-racer series, Forza 3, has sold a million units worldwide in its first month on sale, according to the company.
The game came out in America at the end of October, and in its short time on store shelves in that month, it sold 175,000 copies according to industry sales charters the NPD.
Also announced for the game is the Hot Holidays Car Pack (see below), which features 10 new rides for 400 Microsoft Points. The pack will be available tomorrow.

2010 FERRARI 458 ITALIA
2010 AUDI S4On the topic of the game's sales numbers, am I the only one who isn't impressed that given the entire worldwide install base of the Xbox 360, they've only sold a million copies? With around 14 million Xbox 360s in America alone, I'm surprised the game hasn't sold at least a million here in the U.S. Of course, the holiday season could see a lot of copies sold. It will be very interesting to see how the Forza 3 sales numbers stack up against those of Gran Turismo 5 when it comes out, especially since the Xbox 360 has the bigger install base.

Been waiting for the 458 ITALIA.
To the author of this article regardless of whether Gran Turismo 5 is better than Forza 3 or not it will sell better. What do most people think about when they think of racing simulations? GT5. Also think about the fact that GT5 prologue, the game everyone new was an overpriced demo, sold 4 million copies worldwide.
Anyway as to Forza I'm disappointed it didn't sell better. It's the best racing game I've ever played and hopefully it does better long term.
I'm just waiting to beat it then I'll get all of the car packs.
@Vincent
You're right, Gran Turismo has more of a name than Forza, however, I think that the Gran Turismo brand isn't as high as it used to be, while the Forza name is on the rise.
Perhaps there's a way to handicap the sales numbers when all is said and done to try and "adjust" so to speak for GT's historical presence. I think when the GT 5 sales numbers comes out, we'll have an idea where it should be and where it actually is, and we can have an opinion on it from there.
Regardless of who sells numbers, I wonder what - if anything - they'll tell us about the state of the sim-racer genre. Is it waning? Is it stable, regardless of what the game themselves are like?
the more DLC the better.
I'm getting a car boner
Sorry for the triple post. but on a more serious note i really do fear for the state of the racing sim. Unlike other genres the racing sim can only go one way, and that is more and more realistic. With better graphics and more cars that respond closer to the real thing developers expect to make better games. Turn 10 did make a bold move however with the ability to make the game as realistic and accessible as possible, which can explain its high sales compared to the competition. I really don't know what to think in regards to GT5, the lack of damage is a real turn off when one strives for realism.
Not many Americans really like sim racing games enough to rush out and buy this game... Too bad really this is the best racer I have ever played, and I would like some competion that wasnt laggy due it being cross continental.
Gimme that '10 GTR V-Spec!
I haven't bought this game yet, is it worth it though? I loved forza 2, but is it worth the 60 dollars?
i have forza2, and will probably buy this when the price drops...not too crazy about racing games ya know?
Waiting for the DLC-Laden re-release
if GT5 doesnt have sth to catch their buyers with the 60mil game wont sell at all....
Man that lambo sounds nice
