In just one week of sales in Japan, Nintendo’s portly plumber has set a new record for the Wii. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 936,734 units, making it the biggest Wii debut ever in Mario's country of birth.Mario’s newest installment usurps previous top-sales holder for the Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Brawl held the top of the charts at 816,000 since its Japanese release in January, 2008. The sales figures come from Japanese magazine Famitsu, as translated by Kotaku. With Mario and Modern Warfare 2 topping the sales charts, it’s inevitable to compare the games. Which will eventually outsell the other? Gamasutra reports analytic speculation that NSMB may actually overtake Modern Warfare 2’s overall sales, projecting Mario’s lifetime impact at 15 million units sold.Mario versus Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 is great but there's no way it can contain with not only the lasting power of Mario but the overall reach to just different people in general throughout the world.
Mario is too easily accessible to a bigger audience.

Nintendo has a good chance of beating Modern Warfare 2 but I'm not sure if New Super Mario Bros. Wii will ever outsell MW2 in the US.
im considering getting this game ,but i want some other games too ahhhh! must....not .....buy ....so many ...games that i.....go broke!
Sorry Nintendo, You are a giant, and you know how to bring in the audience, but all of the younger group you used to cater to is now more mature, and ready for something a little darker. I'm hoping Epic Mickey will deliver like it's supposed to.
If Epic Mickey does deliver, then I think it's time for you to get on board. I think IW has this one in the bag.

I saw someone on XBL yesterday, the only game they had and played was MW2. I think there are some Hardcore players out there buying an XBOX 360 exclusively for this game.

I've played both, and I can say it's a fair fight. But Mario will probably sell more because he's well known and fun for all kinds of demographics.
Well there was a similar article on this when Reggie said it would outsell MW2. I personally said there is a chance because more people own Wii's and Mario is a worldwide known name. Everyone knows the man with a red hat. So yes, it will eventually overtake Modern Warfare 2. I don't care how great MW2 was, or how much it sold. Mario will win, Mario is a legend. If there was a Gaming Hall of Fame(I don't know if there is) Mario and Zelda would be the first in it. MW2, No Offense Infinity Ward, doesn't stand a chance.
I think Mario will always have a longer lifespan than any Call of Duty game. Being said, I much prefer the experience of Modern Warfare 2 as opposed to New Super Mario Bros. Wii... the new Mario game seems to be missing something for me.
Wait till Christmas, then we'll see. Personally, I think every parent will see mario and buy it on impulse, my mom almost did when we went to Gamestop for me to "help" her shop for me (in other words: show her what I want and let her buy me them on my card...I'm not big on surprises).
I personally think it could, between the unholy amount of wii's out there and everyone's clamoring for good games for said wii's, I think we could see a beastly christmas for Nintendo.

Mario rules, but it's one console vs. 2 consoles + PC for MW2. And as Fox stated, Galaxy 2 will probably be competition against NSMB. So, I don't see Mario winning this modern war.
I think I'll echo @JMart: it's one console against three, so I don't think it'll outsell MW2, at least not right away (Nintendo's first-party stuff seems to sell forever; remember New Super Mario Brothers on the DS?). However, do I think it'll sell more than MW2 does on any one console.
you would be surprised by what sells big numbers these days from music to games . People are going to probably buy things that just suck ! Mario is no surprise . Women & kids love it & then the rest of us play violent games & sports games. nintendo realy knows how to recycle crap.
Mario SHOULD beat MW2, but its not going to happen. MW2 is just to popular and addictive. Also, I feel to many people see Mario games as too simplistic or childish, which is a shame.
