Free Halo Legends Preview This Saturday

The Halo Legends anime – an upcoming collection of seven short stories framed around the Halo universe – will give players a new way to experience the Halo universe. Fans eager to get a preview glimpse of these animated shorts before their commercial release should check out Xbox Live or halowaypoint.com this Saturday for an advanced showing of the first half of one of the episodes, called “The Package.”

The story follows Master Chief and four specially selected Spartans as they launch out on a stealth cruiser into the heart of a massive Covenant fleet in a bid to recover a valuable intelligence asset.

“I think we have a lot of players that probably don’t fully understand the narrative of the fiction,” says Frank O'Connor, the Halo franchise development director. “A lot of people don’t stop and smell the roses while playing – mainly because it’s easy to miss the narrative when you’re surrounded by explosions and Banshees. This gives fans a chance to enjoy Halo in a completely different experience.”

Produced by 343 Industries and created by a group of renowned anime studios such as Production I.G., Studio 4°C, and Toei Animation, Halo Legends will hit DVD and Blu-Ray shelves on February 9, but check out the online preview schedule below if you’re too eager to wait that long.

  • I have never thought that Halo had an especially stick-out-stellar-story.  Perhaps this shall slightly change my view on this, however I doubt it.

  • Since when was Halo this popular? I didn't think that either the gameplay or the story was really that good, i wonder what the appeal is?

  • i'll be looking forward to this.

  • @ Disillumination, Follower of Kane, & Halo haters

this is just a way to expand the universe. the game was great, imo. the story may not have been stellar but it wasn't anything to hate. i will be looking forward to this and cannot wait for its release. good good Bungie.

  • I stopped following Halo with the advent of the 360, but I shared some good times with my bestys on the original for the XBox. I really like game based anime too, so I am excited for it.

  • The two episodes they already aired have been pretty stellar.  As far as people wondering about the story, the games are only a fraction of the fiction.  The books and the comics have gone a LONG way to fleshing out the entire story.

  • Wow, People really like to comment on things they hate?

  • Halo sucks to me, Its storyline is not interesting with that said, You can't really expect the anime to be good either.

  • i'm not a halo hater, i just don't like it as much as other franchises. to me, call of duty is better.

I'm all for expanding a game universe, though

  • Edit: Wow, people really like to comment on things they don't like.

  • i was never a big fan until i played it and played on xbox live, so those of you who have'nt played it DON'T HATE play it first then love or hate

  • oh and i've seen some of the other episode and they are good

  • im look forward to this just casue so many big name companies are involved with it.

  • sounds promising

  • I've followed the Halo story somewhat while playing.  I don't buy the books, but I'm looking forward to this anime.  Hopefully, it will be fantastic.

  • These episodes are an awesome way to expand on the Halo Universe and so far they have been very entertaining.  I am looking forward to all of these being released on DVD.

Also, it gives people who don't like Halo reason to hate on it more cause they don't have much else to do.

  • The game doesn't have an especially great story, I'll admit.  However, I read one of the Halo books just for grins 'n giggles, and I gotta say, it's actually a pretty dang neat way to expand the fiction.  You wouldn't even know it was Halo.  If I can catch these episodes for free, I'll definitely check it out.

    Also, I'm a sucker for anime :-P

  • Love the game but feels mediocre about the anime...

  • Hey seems like the Halo haters got to this faster than the fans did, they should be good, I mean gamers and anime fans are in the same ball park.

  • I am eager to see how this turns out!
