Get Your EA Sports Visa Debit Card

by Matthew Kato on Dec 03, 2009 at 05:30 AM

Whether it's a roll of butt-wipe or the latest copy of Madden, you're going to buy it anyway so why not get rewarded for it? EA Sports is offering a EA Sports-branded pre-paid Visa debit card that offers users points that can be redeemed for products from national and local retailers.

This card works exactly the same as your debit/ATM card, except you have to pre-pay funds into the card's account. This creates one more step before you can go on that shopping spree, but the good news is that it prevents you from overdrawing on your account. Users can fill the card up via direct deposit, online, at the bank, or by stopping by a "reload network" like a Western Union.

It's not clear how many points are awarded per purchase, but EA says that it takes 6,500 points for an Xbox 360 or PS3 EA Sports title (Wii ones are only 5,500). Of course, you don't have to spend your reward points on just EA Sports stuff. The company says that you can choose from thousands of online and brick-and-mortar merchants in the EA Rewards Mall (open December 15).

I once looked into getting a credit card tied to an airline for free miles, and the whole thing was a joke. The redemption levels were so high, it was just a screw job trying to get me to spend money like crazy to earn points. Stupid. I'd be very curious how many points are awarded per purchase for EA's card, and I'd suggest you do the same. Anyone interested?
