Mythos Returns In 2010

by Phil Kollar on Dec 01, 2009 at 10:00 AM

When Flagship Studios fell apart in 2008, plenty of people were sad, but it wasn't about their only major retail release, Hellgate: London. No, what we were upset to see disappear was their smaller, unreleased Diablo-style hack-and-slash game, Mythos. This ambitious MMO-lite had a ton of potential and was already addicting people in open beta form before it got tragically shut down.

Today, though, we've received word that there is still hope for the project. Redbana, the North American publishing branch for T3 Entertainment, will be releasing an upgraded version of Mythos sometime next year.

So far Redbana isn't giving much for specifics on what changes they've made to Mythos since it came under their development, but they have released a trailer highlighting some new footage of the game:

It's worth noting that the original developers behind Mythos all went on to form Runic Games after being laid off. At their new studio, they've already released Torchlight, which you may recall hearing that we kind of liked a lot. While Torchlight definitely hits the same action-RPG note that Mythos was going for, it's lacking a multiplayer option, though Runic has plans for a MMO set in the Torchlight universe.

Now that Mythos is alive once more, it will be interesting to see if these two multiplayer action-RPGs end up squaring off against each other. At the very least, I suspect they'll both want to get out there before the Blizzard behemoth of Diablo III arrives at some point in 2011 or later.
