Left 4 Dead 2 Sells 2 Million In 2 Weeks, DLC News Coming

Valve’s second wave of animated corpses infected the gaming population just two weeks ago. We knew the damage would be widespread, and now Valve confirms that two million Left 4 Dead 2 units have been sold since the game’s initial outbreak.

"Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press," said Valve's marketing VP, Doug Lombardi. "Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon."

News of DLC coming soon should be heartening for hardened zombie-slayers who’ve all but swept the South clean of infected. We can’t help but wonder what the online numbers look like for Valve’s digital distribution service, Steam. Regardless, if we can count on 1 million dedicated survivors during the actual zombie apocalypse, we might stand a chance.

Has your friends list been teeming with throngs of gamers taking their chainsaws and grenade launchers to thousands of meat-targets? How do you think news of L4D2’s upcoming DLC will be received by gamers who cried out against Valve for releasing the sequel a year after the original?

  • I think the quick DLC will be sort of an apology or a how do you like us now.

Either way I'm cool with it.

  • I think that lots of gamers will like the DLC.  Even though the game was released a year after the original.  It still was a great game.  It is still pretty fun.

  • I just hope it isn't as small as crash course.

  • Yeah, those poor people, they're only playing an awesome game!!!!!

  • do u know what this means? this means its awesome. ban that Australia!!

  • Sadly, everyone on my friends list is playing MW2. I mean, not sadly because it's great, but *** I need some *real* people to survive with.

Hopefully the DLC is cheaper that Crash Course, or at least more robust...

Either way, this game has been my choice despite Borderlands, MW2, and ACII all begging to be played from my games binder...

  • And consider Madden or some other yearly release. L4D2 has just as much replay value and it isn't a sports title!

Also, I hope that Zoey, Louis, Francis, and Bill make it into L4D2 though...

  • I cannot wait for the DLC.

Those still boycotting are surely laden with virulent anger. Then there are people like me still playing both titles regularly. I think the original cast still have a future in the series. Regardless, I still understand why some people remain skeptical or want nothing to do with the sequel. Crash Course felt more like a stipulated agreement rather than what was naturally expected. I think L4D2 was done in great taste and it surpassed my expectations.

  • I think valve has said that all the survivors will meet at some point, whether its in a sequel or not, Who knows. But yeah, I totally agree, I wish fewer people bought MW2 and got Left 4 Dead 2 instead.

  • I can't wait to play this game. Winter break needs to hurry up and get here!

  • Fear not, Blade.  Two million people feel bad for you.  Because you're not playing it, apparently.

L4D2 is better in every way, shape and form that L4D1.  They improved, flawlessly IMO, on every aspect that I had gripes with on L4D1.

  • Sounds great to me.

  • As long as the DLC is robust and good in taste im in.

  • As much as I can say I hope the DLC does this and that, the fact is that I'm going to buy it no matter what. Can't wait.

  • I have yet to play L4D2 but I have played the first and would say that it is great to see Valve, a western company, producing solid zombie games because there is certainly a market for it.  Capcom has done wonders with the genre through series like Resident Evil and Dead Rising and it is good to see other companies joining in (Call of Duty Zombies) to a popular theme. It would be great to see further L4D2 sales to encourage Valve and others to produce quality zombie survival games.

  • it should do okay.  I wish i had live...

  • @ Blade

    shut up!

oh, and i cannot wait for this DLC. luckily i bought L4D2 for $34.99 at Best Buy!

  • I hate paying for DLC. For example new maps, a few new weapons etc...On CoD I refuse to buy maps at that much a piece it's stupid.  If it was a huge add-on to the game like I'm guessing the GTA Gay Tony is then it is fine.

  • Quite surprising.
