The lights are on
It's that time of the year when electronics companies love to gloat about how much product they moved, and this holiday is no different. Many shoppers of questionable sanity lined up absurdly early at their local Best Buys, Targets, and Walmarts to get the best deals for friends and loved ones, giving Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo plenty to smile about.
Sony's Patrick Seybold was proud to announce that there will be 440,000 new Playstation 3 owners thanks to the holiday weekend, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg tweeted that Xbox sales doubled the previous week's tally, and Nintendo trumped both with the news that they sold 1.5 million consoles during the same timeframe. One million of the latter were DS and DSi sales, while 550,000 were newly-purchased Wii consoles.
It's been a fantastic year in terms of quality titles, and these sales numbers show that a few million more of us will get to experience them firsthand very soon.

Gotta love that black friday. Sleeping in with a belly full of turkey when you know so many are up at the crack of down hunting for all those great deals. Nice to see all the platforms did well though.
LOL that was me and my PS3 two years ago. And me again this year for my new laptop....its still a gaming platform lol
Microsoft give us a number so we may believe the number doubled or else its a conspiracy.....
black friday was good this year. maybe next year i can go earlier (like on Thanksgiving) and with more money.
Considering I work night shift and I am always up all night on my days made black friday very amusing for me. I am standing in line perfectly awake listening to my ipod while watching everyone else whine and moan at being tired. I got what I wanted though. Dragon's age for ps3 (Thanks Best Buy) and a 1TB external for my brother for christmas (Thanks Target)
and now they are all just a lil bit richer :*(
wish i was rich
I wanna know who these 550,000 people buying a Wii are! Hang on...phone...Oh hi Nan!....what's that?...a Wii?....aheh...um...thanks?...oh yeah! It's got some great games Nan...no...no I can't think of any off the top of my head rigt now...you bought me Cooking Mama to go with it?...because I like to cook....yes Nan! that's true...I do like to cook...gee thanks again Nan...yup...love you too...
click.
Anyone wanna buy a Wii?
I don't do the Black Friday Cyber Monday thing I'd rather just pay full price. The only way to get me out of the house for it would be to offer a Wii for like 10 bucks.
A Wii for $10? I'd be expecting some change back too. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Yes the Wii is lovely. I'm sorry. It's totally a legitimate console. The way it's called "Wii" cuz everyone and Grandma can play too... I love that.
I have a Wii. Well, actually...I did have a Wii. I sold it. I loved being able to play Link to the Past and Super Mario World. And that's about it.
so now everybody has a wii, right? no? who doesnt have one yet? it seems that everyone and their dog has one ;) infact im using mine right now to post this comment.
great for all three consoles, But were is xbox 360 numbers???
Let the platforms do well, as long as if they don't raise my xbox live rate I'm fine.
It is always good to hear about an jump in console purchases. With more people able to play, it will hopefully correlate to an increase in multiplayer numbers through their online services. More consoles will likely turn into more titles purchased during the holiday season too. Looking pretty good for the gaming industry.
You becha!
i love how microsoft didnt put any numbers up lol hahaha.....i see that they probably didnt beat ps3 sales like they said they would
Wal-mart had a deal on the ps3, packaging it with Batman: AA, Infamous and the Black Knight on Blu-ray for the standard 299 price. No wonder they did so well.
I thought that all the soccer mom's all ready had their wii's and wii fit's? I swear there is a conspiracy... I bet Nintendo sends people out to buy wii's and just restocks them in their warehouses to boost their "sales" numbers. You know, kind of like Microsoft exaggerating their numbers by not specifying the resales to the owners who have had their 360's fail (54.2% failure rate, are you freaking kidding me?!?)
Awww, there's nothing like people getting hurt over a special deal.
I usually laugh at people like that (rather get my stuff full price with no competition)
That's why I like to go to my local GS (which is about 5 miles from the mall that has 2 of them), so it's usually empty and they always have the games in even on release day (while others are fighting at the mall).
BTW I don't own a Wii yet... could this be my lucky X-mas??? :P
Does "Xbox sales doubled the previous week's tally" mean they sold 2, count them 2, consoles this week?
Holy... that is a large number of DS systems.... Nintendo certainly isn't hurting is it?
Black Friday saving the day once again!
