Ubisoft Developing Ten Titles For Project Natal, Four to Five For Sony Motion Controller

In a morning call to investors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot broke the news that the company is devoting some serious resources to developing titles for Microsoft's Project Natal peripheral and Sony's PS3 motion controller.

"We have around ten games that will come out for Natal during the first six months of its release," said Guillemot. "And we expect four to five games for Sony's new motion controller."

While he stressed that those plans could change in the next 12 months, as of now it looks like Ubisoft is betting that these new peripherals will make major waves with consumers when they are released. While no specific titles were revealed, Guillemot did say that over 70 percent of the titles in development would be new IP, and that a majority of them would be aimed at the casual games market. This news is especially interesting in light of Ubisoft's $117 million operating loss reported for the first half of its financial year, something Guillemot partially blamed on slow sales of its Wii titles. Perhaps the company hopes that it can succeed with the Microsoft and Sony motion controllers where it's failed on the Wii.

  • Woo more gimmick games and shovelware, just what we need.

Nevermind that we have an entire system for that.

  • if motion games didnt work on the wii, why are they trying it for ps3 and 360? they should stick to what they are good at, and if motion control is so important, put it on the next console

  • I can't stand motion controls.

  • its only a gimmick to me as of now. i traded in my wii becuz of the forced motion play. i am glad i can skip this.

  • There's a reason they had losses on the Wii. It's because people are over this motion control gimmick. I don't want the new control peripherals when they come out and I will not be purchasing any game that forces me to use one.

  • Oh boy. I can't wait to play 'Natal: Brush Your Teeth!'

  • Why does everyone feel the need to jump on the motion band wagon? Leave it alone!! Please! It's like beating a dead horse, and still somehow managing to get money out of it.

  • Idiots and their casual gamer games........use PROJECT NATAL in the right way. Major fighting games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Boxing, karate, Etc!!!!!!!!!!!

I camera that can sense your head, neck, arms, hands, feet and torso.

    B O X I N G ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • Screw Natal! I want to see THIS get games developed for it!

Can you imagine First Person perspective games with this gear??

  • Natal will fail because of one fatal flaw:  no force feedback.

There is an entire generation of gamers out there that don't know what to do without a controller, much less one that doesn't vibrate.

  • Wow. I do hope it is just shovelware. Would not want big projects like the next ghost Recon to be squandered on the early days of Natal.

  • i hope that this stupid motion idea dies in the next console. in the meantime, Ubisoft needs to make AC3 and the new Rainbow six.

  • Victor Colon III:

your saying that motion games dont work!!! ya some of them don't, but look at the wii's sales! over 50 freakin million units were sold! thats so much money right there.that is why you are seeing a decrease in sales for the wii now is because everyone has one! Of course, Sony and microsoft just want to make more money, but that doesnt mean you have to hate on it. hell, this might actually be cool. Thes is only a stepping stone. Give it a couple of years and it would be full virtual reality, and people will still be hating on it then. Sigh, you guys have to give a chance first.

And i own a wii, and i also dislike it, but still.

  • I need to see more of what the Natal is capable of before I can pass judgment.

Aside from gaming, I enjoy high-activity hobbies, and it would be a nice spin on things to see what most people consider to be the antithesis of a video-gaming experience to translate into the virtual realm. I wouldn't mind kicking someone's ass in a first-person boxing match via online multiplayer. Being able to use your physical condition as an advantage in a video-game would be quite revolutionary.

  • Whats with all the hate? You never know besides if it bombs it bombs but if turns out to be great and you're the only guy who is bent on not caring, how would that feel.

"Don't judge a book by its cover."

  • I hardly think one largely failed attempt at motion control means the idea is dead forever. It is pretty clear now that Nintendo never planned to put any real effort into developing the technology. For all anyone knows, writing it off now could be the equivalent to all the people who said home computers would never catch on because they were too big to fit in the family room. If someone does it, and it works, and it advances gaming, I'm all for it.

  • Man controllers are old tech. Its the same dam thing the Atari had. oooo but this one has more buttons on it, SO WHAT? The keyboard mouse same dam thing for years. Its like when Mark Cuban talked about the internet in a recent interview calling it old and out of date. This stuff is. Sure the controllers have been given more buttons and the internet is faster but it hasn't been innovative. Motion is where gaming is heading to next. People need to be ready to move because full immersion into a game will be a epic win.

  • i really hope they do halo and stuff like that. That would be awesome but if they dont then it will truly crumble and fail

  • As long as the sony motion controller doesn't work like Resident Evil 5 demo, welcome.
