Making Of The Beatles: Rock Band Opening Cinematic

Harmonix had a cool holiday treat to share with us this week. They sent over this video detailing the behind-the-scenes story of crafting the opening cinematic for The Beatles: Rock Band. If you’ve been hiding under a rock and haven’t seen the stellar cinematic sequence, you’re missing out. In a few short minutes, it manages to artistically present the sprawling career of The Beatles, right up to a strange psychedelic conclusion. The game released this September on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. New downloadable content for the game has been releasing ever since, including the complete albums of Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Rubber Soul is scheduled to release next month. Check out the exclusive video, and let us know what you think – how well did Harmonix handle their presentation of The Beatles, both in this cinematic and in the wider game?

  • So much time and effort. It really has resulted in a beautiful game.

  • The opening and end cutscenes are absolutely stunning.  Oh, and there's a brilliant game in between them too.

  • I love the Beatles, but I don't want to get the rock band.

  • Rhinophants FTW!!!  That was a very interesting video about the opening, and for some reason, it gets me pumped for Sgt. Pepper's once I get the money :-D

  • No matter how many times I view this sequence, I always seem to feel the same. I start out enjoying the animation and music, and get swept up in Beatle-love until it transitions to psychadelia. I can't help feeling a little alienated from my favorite band when the cartoon-style creatures start running about. I can't quite see how the suit-wearing fish tie into the music of the Fab Four. Still, hearing their music upon arrival at the main menu usually causes me to forget about the past minute and sweeps me into Beatlesmania.
