The lights are on
Starting with the recently released Assassin’s Creed II, Ubisoft is kicking off a new service called Uplay that, among other things, will award players with in-game items in exchange for certain achievements and trophies on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Four achievements in the game including simple tasks like “Enter the Animus 2.0” will contribute up to 100 total Uplay points, which can then be turned around into extra throwing knives, an Altaïr costume, the Auditore Family Crypt bonus map, and an AC II console theme. Of course, you can blow it all on these rewards or save up for future Ubisoft games. In Splinter Cell Conviction things like upgrading your weapon will earn a new SCAR-H gun, multiplayer skin, multiplayer game mode, and a theme. Upcoming RTS game Ruse also has similar rewards. All games so far seem to have 100 points to earn and an equal amount of prize fees. The service is technically in beta right now, and the reward service is part of the Uplay Win branch. Other upcoming features include social networking, help guides, and some kind of shop.

More Achievement stuff? great google moogle, how much can you work on Achievements and awards to try and get people to play?
Good Idea More Companies Should Do This As Much As I Love Achievements It Sux They Don't Mean Much So It'd be Nice To Get Something For Them
I'll try this out tonight. Sounds cool.
this is a great idea. Achievements are fun, but still pretty useless. this looks like a great incentive to go after them
Good stuff. gonna check this out tonight
It sounds interesting if they do it right.
I checked this out a bit last night. If you beat Assassin's Creed II, you will have enough Uplay points to redeem for all four of the game's rewards from the service.
I took a look at it yesterday before I started the game. You get an extra 10 points just for starting the UPlay service. I think it's nice that they're offering a new map with it. My only complain was the alert for earning the "Enter the Animus" achievement was kinda huge. I think achievements are distracting enough.
this is great getting ACTUAL prizes for playing the game other that "Achievements" (bragging rights). i want to play with Altair's outfit.
We need this for the ps3 versions
Pretty nifty feature.
PS3 does haveit. just select Uplay on the title screen to get started.
it's cool that you can get a new map for free.how much points will you have to get to get a game?
My suggestion to y'all who plan on doing this is to go online and set up your account first (you get 10 points for it), then sign into the account "through the game" for another 10 points (not sure if you get the 10 points for sign-up then another 10 for login if you do it all through the game). Then you can start getting the reward points through the game.
This seems like a very solid idea to me. Rewarding players of the game with in-game rewards is a great idea. Way to go Ubisoft.
wow, more virtual stuff for virtual achievements.
I'm surprised no one started doing this sooner, especially Microsoft
Awesome. They are starting to reqard us for Gamerscore.
Like I needed more incentive to play AC2! Good job Ubisoft. This is a really sweet idea.
@Joe Thibault
Probably because Microsoft enjoys shafting people.
And this idea is brilliant, nicely done Ubisoft. Just for that I'll get Assassin's Creed II for PS3
Wait wait wait...so we can use it to buy future games? How many points is that? Am I going to have to beat 7 Ubisoft-developed games in order to buy AC3 in two years?
