God of War III To Have Online Co-op?

Sometimes two giant blades attached to chains just aren’t enough to slice and dice the mythological hordes of the God of War series. How does four Blades of Chaos sound? Rumor has it that God of War III will feature online co-op, you know, so your buddy can kick a Cyclops in the groin while you tear out its eye.

TheGamerAccess recently uncovered the revealing detail about the upcoming title on Sony's Retail Loyalty. The tidbit comes in the form of a Q&A:

“Will God of War III have online cooperative modes?”

“Yes.”

That sounds pretty definitive, but until we hear official word from Sony, we’re marking this one as hear-say. It definitely gets the mind working though. Imagine the possible tag-team executions.

With all the other blockbuster games being unleashed upon our overworked consoles, it’s easy to forget about other huge upcoming titles like God of War III. Did this get it back on anyone’s mind? Was it ever absent?

  • Yeah, no it was never absent.  I can't wait. Co-op would be interesting, but why mess with a good thing?

  • I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Pre-ordered the Ultimate edition the day it became available for access to the demo.

I think co-op could be really awesome if it was a separate mode, like specific challenges or something like a horde mode in gears, or working together to fight bosses.

  • I vaguely remember awhile back someone in the GOW dev team explicitly saying that they only cared about making the best single player experience, that they had no interest in following the online trend. I know a lot of dev teams are jumping ship on their commitment to single player (Uncharted, Bioshock), but seeing as how this is the final game in a trilogy I highly doubt they would end the series with co op.

  • For a game like this, it isn't needed. But I guess we will have to see how it turns out

  • Being as I am the only person with a PS3 out of my friends Co-op online doesn't matter to me at all. So this is no news rightnow to me. I'll be getting it to play and see what happens. That's it.

  • easy to forget about God of War III? there isn't any game coming out next year that will even come close to the greatness of GoW3.

i just want to see how it's like,i would love to play with my friends but would it ruin the single player experience? either choice would be great.

  • This game has never been absent from my mind. Ever since I played the E3 Demo I just wanna play it all day long. I do think that Co-op could be an awesome addition especially since it won't mess with the story mode at all or ruin the single player experience. If you HAD to play co-op then it might change the game. But I think that they have pulled off a great series so far and they know how to make a great addition to an already amazing game. If it happens then sweet, if not then so be it. It friggin God of War III no one will complain.

  • @ Black-Xero

Final Fantasy XIII comes out next year.

Anyway, I think online Co-Op could be cool. I still see it as a Single Player game so I wonder how it will turn out.

  • lol I bought a ps3 two months ago.... this game was the reason why

  • sweet

    LIES!!!!!!!!

  • @collision236

I know it does but do you really think that any FF has a chance with GoW3? not saying they suck because im getting the 13 only because i want a new rpg....

  • Co-op would be a lot of fun... i hope they decide to include it in the game.

  • @ Black

I'm a huge fan of God of War but God of War is the THIRD iteration. Final Fantasy 13 is like the 50th it feels like, not to mention the other godly amount of games that IMO will probably beat God of War.

    1) BioShock 2, multiplayer being specifically developed by one studio is going to make more and more people buy the game

    2) Mass Effect 2, possibly a close battle between numbers so its unclear.

    3) I could keep going but i think you get the idea (WoW Cata, Sc2, (halo?), CoD)

    :P

  • If there's a co-op I'm wondering if it'll be with two Kratos or other characters. I think multiple Kraots is something they can pull off (in a sands of time kind of way), but visually it might seem disjointed.

  • NOT SURE HE DOES OR DOES NOT WANT.

I like the idea, but I like my God of war to be a solitary experience. There's definitely room for something great, but I'm just a bit wary for now.

  • If this is true, I'm interested in how they'll implement it. I'm sure it won't just be a pointless add on, Santa Monica is too good for that.

  • I am a little bit concerned about how this is going to fit into the story (if at all). Kratos isn't exactly the most group-friendly kind of guy (case in point: the Gods, his own family). I have a pretty bad feeling about this. However, seeing four whirling blades on screen at once could be awesome distilled into a blu-ray disk, so it's sort of a double edged sword in that sense.

  • ok...so this is Gears of War or God of War? (co-op pufffffffff)
