Activision Stock Sale Gives Kotick Something To Smile About

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is having a great week. When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launched Tuesday it sold 4.7 million units within the first 24 hours generating $310 million. If that’s not enough, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing made this week, Kotick sold nearly two million shares of Activision Blizzard upon the launch of MW2 earning him a whopping $20 million. This figure tops his 2008 compensation package, which according to Forbes totaled nearly $15 million. Post-sale, Kotick still has 3,109,729 shares of Activision Blizzard that are now worth a smooth $35,575,300. No wonder he’s always smiling.

  • ***. Now that is what I call an opportunist!

  • I hate that guy. I hate him so much.

  • His face is very punchable even more so now that we know what goes on his head aka "How can I get more money out players while giving them less?"

  • if i had a printer, i'd have a new dart board.

  • Staff

Could we get a more close-up picture of Kotick's face please?

  • Cheeky ***

  • Wow. I wonder how much of that money will go towards a charity or towards a benevolent cause.

Sometimes I wish I could rob men like this, then take the money to Africa to feed needy people.

    This guy's a repugnant ***hole...

  • He has an odd shaped head.. the kind I'd pay money to kick.

  • @Jeff

Could we not? That one is already going to give me horrible, horrible nightmares.

I guess I never truly understood why he was so determined to attach udders to all of his franchises. Now I know its because he has so much stock on them.

  • Given the $310 MW2 has earned in the past two days, I guess $20 is a fair pat on the back for Kotick.

So... they're going to spend that $310 making all their other games less crappy, right? Right?

  • I wish I could punch Robert Kotick in the teeth.

It upsets me to think that this guy is basking in the money of hard-working parents whose kids want to play Roberts 'favorite' franchises to exploit and/or ruin.

And there's nothing I can do about it.

  • Wow does he have an awesome life!

  • my peep jeluean has this game

  • At least he is making money from a good product.  I’m sure the ahole who created Wii Play is on his own private island somewhere laughing at all of us

  • I wish i was that guy.

  • Why doesn't he give some of that money to the developers >.>

  • his face. it says "look how much more money i have than you". makes me sick... and jealous.

  • The bad part is tat because he's making so much money, he won't be fired/let go anytime soon.

  • Mod

What does one do with $20 million dollars?  Seriously... curse him.

  • Man, that is easily the most hittable smile I've ever seen, and I've seen some hittable smiles.

For myself, actually, I cannot hate Kotick. I hate his business practices, but I would have to know about him in order to hate the man. For all I know, he was raised to beleive that financial success was the only thing that mattered in life. In my experience, people like him are usually formed by their environments.

I practice an effective expression of my dislike for Activision's business model: I just don't buy the games. That's going to come back and bite me when Singularity comes out, but crap happens.
