Miyamoto Opens Up On Star Fox Series

by Matthew Kato on Oct 27, 2009 at 12:12 PM

Not even gaming great Shigeru Miyamoto gets it right every time. In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Miyamoto expressed regret that the latest iterations of Star Fox perhaps didn't live up to fans' expectations. "I tend to forget those games," laughed Miyamoto. In a reflective mood, he continued, "I'm a big fan of the Star Fox games. Every time we make a Star Fox game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course, the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years.

Still, Miyamoto said the franchise isn't done yet. "But, we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."

Perhaps Miyamoto's own acknowledgment of the series' shortcomings means the company is working even harder to bring the franchise back strong. Rumors have been floating around that the company is working on a new Star Fox, but there have been no official announcements, and there hasn't been a new Star Fox adventure on a home console since Nintendo hired Namco to create Star Fox: Assault for the GameCube. The Wii remote (with Wii Motion Plus) would surely be an attractive option for flight controls, and perhaps a new developer can bring a fresh perspective.

What do you think? Is the series done or is it ready to be reinvented? What would you like to see?
