The lights are on
Legendary industry figure Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke with Popular Mechanics regarding everything from his favorite Nintendo character to the future of gaming. Within the interview, the father of Mario mentioned a few interesting details regarding Nintendo’s next console. When asked whether Nintendo would continue to use motion-control with consoles following up the Wii, Miyamoto responded that the current system found a sweet spot with a broad audience and an affordable price-tag.“And while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future,” Miyamoto continued, “what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”Is this simply the long awaited Wii HD that Miyamoto is talking about, or is he mentioning an entirely new console? Regardless, does a down-scaled, affordable system sound like what you want from Nintendo? Also, Miyamoto’s favorite character is Mario, followed closely by the Goomba.

cool I would like to see a cheaper console
Lets all be HONEST. If games like CONDUIT, DEAD SPACE EXTRACTION, and Red Steel 2 were in HD, the Wii would have been Perfect. The fact that they DIDNT use HD in the console was what ruined it. I still love my Wii and play it with my kids, but only Sports type games and maybe a shooter or 2.
I have a wii and getting another nintendo system is worthless. All they are talking about is making it cheaper and continue to appeal to their current audience (casual gamers). Also they're getting really lazy, they haven't made an original game since pikmin on the gamecube, 8 YEARS AGO!
And Azure Knight, the conduit's graphics were horrible. And diehard nintendo before you complain to me ask yourself this, where is Starfox, Kirby, and Fzero, and why did mariokart wii have recycled tracks and no actual changes other than bikes?
That would be pretty awesome if they remade the "It prints money!" ad.
Anyways it sounds to me that it is just a Wii HD. Doesn't sound like anything "ground breaking" but who knows? They've been known to surprise us.
Really does not sound like Nintendo is looking to go the direction that anyone who calls themselves a gamer wants. Hello 'generic' brand video game console, how are you doing today?
What I want from Nintendo is good games
smaller cheaper and even MORE lame myuahahahhahahahahah.. am i the only one that thinks he looks evil? lol
You've gotten enough money now, Nintendo. All I want is the best Zelda experience possible, which means graphics and sound that can compare to the best on 360 and PS3
Goomba? I thought it'd be yoshi.
Thats all well and good but I prefer cutting edge gaming, not the cheap casual stuff Nintendo is pushing.
I'm all in for more affordable consoles. It's still too early to start judging the next console already. Miyamoto is a legend for a reason, I don't doubt his talent and creativity. I'm sure whatever their next console is, it's gonna see some improvements.
I would think his second favorite character would be link or samus.
Yay! Rounded-square shaped Miis, in HD!
Wii-SP, anyone? :-)
Meh, after I got like the only ten good games off the Wii, it's been collecting dust, and quite frankly I am not happy at all with the direction Nintendo's taking. I doubt I'd buy another Nintendo console anymore.
If that down-scaled, affordable system is a Super Nintendo, then yes.
Legend of Zelda, Metroid prime, Brawl, and Mario galaxy
are afew good titles on the wii, other than that, I don't
Should be interesting...
Woot, another weak system! I'm so hyped gais!
