The lights are on
The $49.99 standard for a one year Xbox Live subscription could double, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. During one of the industry analyst’s regular appearances on GameTrailer’s Bonus Round, he attributed Microsoft’s profit from the online service as the catalyst for an inevitable price hike."You can't hook a guy into Xbox Live Gold if he's playing on a PC," Pachter said, regarding Microsoft’s neglect for the PC gaming scene. "... that's the other problem -- you really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay you 50 bucks a year so that, in a couple years, it's a 100 bucks a year. And that's going up, we all know that ... it's a profit deal."With Microsoft being the only manufacturer to directly charge for full online features, one can’t help but wonder if a move would help or hurt the company in the long run. What do you think? Would you hesitate to resubscribe if the price jumped $50? Do you think Microsoft could get away with it?

it will be a cold day in hell before i will pay 100 dollars for a yearly subscriptions. unless MSFT suddenly drops the price of dlc by 90% and offers alot more free content, ill pass and just spend the money and get a ps3, even if they dont raise the price ill still get a ps3. seriosly i hope this guy is a jack ass and is just making people scared b/c he is mean and hes trying to be funny. MSFT would have to be a retarded company to up the price $50, they would lose so much on console sales, and if they do, bill gates will be back to kisck ass and set crap straight...hopefully
I couldn't care less about the cost change itself, as I don't have an Xbox.. But I have to say, I hope they do raise the price. That way, I'll potentially be seeing a lot more of you guys on PSN! Muahaha.
this sucks if they do im playing ps3 i mean i thought the $50 was ridiculus screw microsoft
This is reason #1065 that I'm so glad I have a PS3.
I suppose that if they raise the price to $100 for a year-long subscription, as long as they retain at least half their current subscribers, it's a good deal for them. Bad for me though, and I won't be renewing if they do something like this. This would sway my decision whether to buy a multi-platform game for a ps3 vs. a 360.
I suppose they need to recoup losses from the 360 repairs somehow.
Crazy man stop it before Microsoft hears you!!!!
I think the drop in subscriptions will be a lot lower than 50% though, so this wouldn't be a good move, profit-wise.
This won't happen, though.
I'm still not thrilled about paying $50.00. I'm definitely not paying $100.
I hope it happens so people will open thier eyes to the error of microsofts ways.
man that would be suicide for microsoft, most ppl just want the service to play game, if they are raising the cost to cover the netflix, lastfm, facebook, twitter front then screw that, at the very essence to me the consoles are for playing games and all that is second.
dont get me wrong i dont mind paying 50 bucks a year for live and 10 extra to watch fairly new movies and tv shows on netflix stream but thats as good as its going to get for me, i pay enough for all the games that i want and all the dlc that comes with them that 100 bucks just to play on line crosses the line for me, then and only then will sony's online surpass live in quality..... which by no means is a slam on the psn it just needs a little work thats all :)
Ummm, nope. Lets see $100 bucks a month +$400 250gb bundles + no extras = screw u microsoft! Keep it at 50 bucks!
They better have some addons to the live experience that are worth the $100. If not, it's just another ripoff from a major corporation.
I will say when inflation hits that point...yes this could happen, but it won't be in a few years, that's for sure. You can count on one thing though, MS will need the extra monies for all the people they drive away (self included)
That is the day I am done with Xbox Live.
yea i have an xbox and a ps3 so if they do that my xbox will start to gather dust.....
That would be so crazy to do, axpecilly since the PS3 online ability is free. Microsoft should not do this. If there trying to make money because of the XBox 360 price drop they should just keep the XBox 360 prices as they were, instead of making XBox Live users pay more. We already have to pay $100 to even get XBox Live started. Who agrees with me.
I don't understand why the jump is so drastic. This could be considered price gouging on so many levels. There is absolutely no reason for a 100% increase in any industry for any item in the time span of one payment cycle. They should, at the very least, increase it gradually. $10 a year or something like that. This is a pathetic move on the part of the (usually) respectable Microsoft Corp.
They better not do this otherwise im gonna retire for playin online....
if not i would switch 2 a PS3, besides $50 for a year sounds just fine as it is
if this is true, i dont think ill be gettin an xbox 360 anytime soon
I wont even pay the $50 I can't believe people;e would be able to justify $100 for a service that should be free.so the publishers pay and the the consumer pays ,, Microsoft just can't stop the greed
