The lights are on
The $49.99 standard for a one year Xbox Live subscription could double, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. During one of the industry analyst’s regular appearances on GameTrailer’s Bonus Round, he attributed Microsoft’s profit from the online service as the catalyst for an inevitable price hike."You can't hook a guy into Xbox Live Gold if he's playing on a PC," Pachter said, regarding Microsoft’s neglect for the PC gaming scene. "... that's the other problem -- you really want to hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay you 50 bucks a year so that, in a couple years, it's a 100 bucks a year. And that's going up, we all know that ... it's a profit deal."With Microsoft being the only manufacturer to directly charge for full online features, one can’t help but wonder if a move would help or hurt the company in the long run. What do you think? Would you hesitate to resubscribe if the price jumped $50? Do you think Microsoft could get away with it?

If they do that, I'll just rally up people and boycott Xbox live. Who's with me?
No thanks, I'd be selling my 360 and buying a PS3 all to spite M$.
If anything, they should lower the cost. I'm okay with paying $50 a year, but it's a bit ridiculous to raise it to half the cost of the lowest-level console.
Of course, this is Pachter.
Good thing I already have a PS3 because I will not pay 100 hundred dollars just for online gaming, who knows I may even turn on the Wii again HaHa.
if they do pull that i buy playstation multiplayer games instead of xbox, like mw2 on playstaion instead on 360. no i will not pay $100, when the PlayStation is free.
ok now this is a load of crap.i dont have a problem paying for itat its current rate, because it is the superior service and you get what you pay for.doubling the price is dumb and if it happens im sure there will be a lot of irate subscribers who already believe it should be free as it is, because sony is doing it.no psn isnt as good but its good enough for being free.which is a good arguement in this day and age of video games and rates we pay to play them in a recession.this is a big bad idea,so ms dont get to greedy on this one because a lot of 360 owners are already mad that we get nickel and dimed alot as it is and you already price some of your accessories too high as it is.ms has plenty of money how about cutting the price of live instead.you will gain more subscribers that way.
I'm a silver member, and have been since I got my 360 about 2 or 3 years ago. The $50 price tag is the ONLY thing keeping me from going gold, that and I have enough fun playing through the single player portions of the games I own. If they do this I will most certainly not ever get a gold subscription, and turn to Sony for my online needs
If Microsoft where to do something like that and double the price to 100, i would certainly stop my LIVE subscription and switch to PS3 for my online needs.. I already pay the 50 a year which i think is pretty reasonable but i would not pay double that.
I already get heat from my friends that have a PS3, that i have to pay for live and whatever and they dont... doubling the price would just make everyone a sucker if they do decide to pay 100
Microsoft isnt that Dumb though
I would pay... I mean, I would have to. Hope it doesn't come to that. We are at Microsoft's mercy on this one.
Why would Microsoft do this? They really want me to jump ship, dont they?
If they do this I'm sure they'll loose a lot of subscribers. And those subscribers that wont play XBL anymore might go to PC or PS3 which do almost the same for free.
There are enough games that I play on the 360 to justify the $50 a year for Live, but most of those games are multiplatform, so if the price did hike I would have to seriously consider whether I still wanted to shell that out. They'll get a lot of angry letters if they do make it more expensive, and would probably lose enough people so that they wouldn't turn over a greater profit anyway.
This would pretty much make me exclusively a multiplayer PC gamer.
HAHAHAHA...what a load of poodoo....That's why I have a PS3!!!!
they might as well bust my balls, who are they competing with anyways that they need to raise the price
this is already another reason why I don't use xbox anymore, they have a world monopoly with the windows systems overcharging us already 4 a crappy OS n now they want to charge us more 4 the live subscription I mean come on with a system that's 4 years old in the market btw who should have fix the burning problem or the freezin' problem been the world wealthiest company in the world, but what could you expect from a world class rip-off company.....bummer
No can do. I'm having trouble affording the 50 dollars in the first place. No. No I would not pay for this stupid idea. I would love it if they made mutiplayer free in exchange for the price raise.
No way! It is costly enough to play all the good titles every year. I have a hard enough time putting down 50 bucks for a year. If the price goes up, there goes my subscription.
And him saying this is based off of??? A premonition?
