Sega Website Says Alpha Protocol Coming In Spring 2010

Alpha Protocol's original projected release date was October 6th. Today is, in fact, October 6th. Don't bother rushing to the store, however, because the game is not out. The elusive title has fallen even further from our grasp. Alpha Protocol has successfully evaded its only concrete release date so far, and is perpetuating the mystery with a vague update on Sega's website.

Sega's official website waited until the last minute to turn back the hands on the launch clock. Now the company's website displays the loose window of Spring 2010 for release, hopping in bed with a bevy of other titles hitting shelves in 2010.

Move over BioShock 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction, early 2010 just got a little more crowded...by a guy who apparently looks a little like Adam Sandler, judging from the image above.

  • I CAN'T BELEIVE IT!!! Not because the game was delayed, i knew that was coming, but because I thought the same thing when I first saw the April 2008 cover: THAT THAT DUDE LOOKS LIKE ADAM SANDLER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm glad it's not coming out till later. Too many good games coming out real soon.

  • early 2010 is way too crowded

  • *** and I was so looking forward to this game. Over the weekend, Amazon decided to email me asking for my approval on the delay..

So, why was it delayed at the last minute?

  • At least now I don't have to worry about another RPG competing for my time when Dragon Age: Origins comes out.

  • Yeah. Good choice on Sega's part. Not nearly as much to compete with in spring 2010.

I agree, i think this is ideal. The game looks really good in places, but really rough in others...and rough enough that I didn't think they would have enough time to make it as good as I think it can be.

    So smart move.

This game could great if the developer gets the time.

  • So when are we going to start seeing stories saying that things were pushed back into summer or fall 2010. Spring 2010 has more games than this fall for God's sake.

  • I was actually wondering about this game a few days ago because I knew it was coming out soon but I didn't know when.  I don't mind the later release date.  Obsidian can do great things if given enough time.

  • Jeez we've known about it for a week. Sega...is bungling this game. It looks good, but man sega, WTH are you doing? Not even a press release???

  • Yeah, when I read the piece about it in GI I was really excited for it.  It looks like a unique take on the spy game.  A less competitive environment and more time for polishing can only be a good thing for the future of this game.

  • Wow, bummer - Sandler?  I was thinking more of Affleck.  Hell, Fergie and James Marsters, too!  Go Spike...

  • This irritates me. The last minute delays are horrid. I had my GI release calendar dog-eared and went into FRYs today expecting to get my copy.

    Now I hear next June.

My faith in Obsidian has been shaken.

The Alpha Protocol site still has a link saying coming in October 2009 right on the front page. What last minute bug could have possibly pushed it so far back?

  • well i for one am getting tired of waiting for this game i was so excited that it was coming out that i ran down to gamestop to reserve it and then i found out it was delayed till mid 2010 now i don't know if i'll want it then because other games might come out that are more important to me or i might lose interest in it by then i mean if the delay was due to the game needing more time for development i can understand but from what i hear it's because they don't want to compete with other games and that just sucks

  • this kills all excitement for me for this game

  • I am SO excited about this game.  Don't get me wrong, I still am, but I'm pretty sure Modern Warfare 2 will keep me occupied well into 2010.  I saw a few weeks ago where this game had been pushed back to June of next year.  I wonder how many developers decided to postpone games just because of the popularity already generated for those that ARE being released in the remaining months of 2009.  I truly hope it's so they can make this game as great as it potentially can be.

  • really another! oh well. i am gonna rent this on gamefly. yeah, that does look like adam sandler.

  • I find this amusing because we had the PR director from Obsidian on the Kombo Breaker podcast a few weeks ago and he was all about the October launch. Now I worry that the game's going to get lost in the "Q1 2010" shuffle. Still, if it's not ready and needs more time in the oven I'd rather have it delayed than come out unfinished. Even so, now it's going to be tough for AP to get much attention next year.

I've really been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced. I'm really disappointed in this announcement. Normally, I'm all for delays if it means a better finished product. For some reason, I do not feel this way about Alpha Protocal. I'm beginning to think that the delays are not a good thing with this title and that it is going to be very mediocre once it does release. I really hope that I am wrong and that we will get a blockbuster experience next year but I'm really not feeling it.

  • I had no idea when this was coming out, but I'm still pretty excited.  I'm a bit bummed that I'll have to pick from this game, Bioshock 2, and a few others this coming spring though.

You don't mess with the Zohan! :-)
