Tim Schafer Plugs Brutal Legend On Late Night

by Dan Ryckert on Oct 03, 2009 at 01:53 PM

Despite Jimmy Fallon's inability to keep a straight face during SNL sketches, he's proving that he can keep a promise to gamers by treating major game releases the same way most talk shows treat major movie openings. This means appearances by gaming industry figures that we're not used to seeing on late-night talk show couches, starting with Kudo Tsunoda and his Project Natal demonstration. With the release of Brutal Legend quickly approaching, Double Fine's Tim Schafer made his late night debut by Fallon's side last night.

Considering that late night talk shows can pull a significant mainstream audience, Fallon chose not to confuse large chunks of his audience by getting too deep into nerd-speak. Most of the conversation covered Schafer's love of music and his desire to bring the imagery from metal album covers to life, although he does briefly touch on a couple of Eddie Riggs' abilities. Game developers don't have many opportunities to speak in front of a huge nationwide audience, and it was somewhat noticeable that Schafer wasn't as comfortable onscreen as major Hollywood stars who do this on a regular basis. He managed to get a couple laughs out of the crowd in his six-minute segment, and a brief montage of game footage is shown at the beginning. Click here for the video.
