PopCap Games Coming to Nintendo Handhelds

by Andy McNamara on Sep 24, 2009 at 01:13 PM

The developers at PopCap Games announced today their intentions to completely dominate the casual game market - more than they already are. Their plan of attack? Take their two most popular franchises - Bookworm and Bejeweled - and bring them to the DS and DSi.

Bookworm will be coming to the DSi in the form of a downloadable title, available by the end of the month. It will feature the Classic mode of the original game. The DS version won’t debut until December 1, but sounds like the more feature-rich version, with new content, a multiplayer mode, and innumerable ways to “measure and track your growing spelling and vocabulary prowess.”

Bejeweled Twist will be following a similar formula; the DSi version will arrive first in mid-October, and will feature only the Classic and Multiplayer modes, while the DS version will follow in Q1 2010, with more game modes and extra content. Bejeweled Twist however, will allow DS and DSi owners to play together if they both own DS copies - the first time interoperable multiplayer between the two handhelds has been possible.
