New DJ Heroes Cut Chemist and J. Period Enter Fray

The talent list for Activision's upcoming DJ Hero is swelling by the day. The turntable-based music rhythm is receiving new mixes from esteemed sultans of scratch J.Period and Cut Chemist. The new DJs join late DJ AM, DJ Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, The Scratch Perverts and DJ Yoda to compile a staggering 93-mix song list.

Cut Chemist is the founding member of Jurassic 5, a Grammy award winning artist. His contribution is a mix featuring "unreleased music from one of the biggest bands in the world," according to Activision's press release. The other new DJ, J.Period, has two fresh tracks to contribute:

Q-Tip “Good Thang” vs. Billy Squier “Big Beat”
Gang Starr “Just to Get a Rep” vs. Mobb Deep “Shook Ones, Part 2"

Even though Activision has been able to score a solid track list with incredible mash-ups, it will be interesting to see if that's enough for consumers to fork over the scratch to buy the game and expensive peripheral.

  • So excited for DJ Hero.  This game is so fun to play.

Sweet. I'm mostly excited about Jazzy Jeff because he has some of the purest and clean sounds out there. He still caries that mid-90's hip hop jazz influence. I'm surprised to see J.Period on the list, but in a positive way. He's got some of the best mixtapes out there!

I think I like saying "out there"...

  • ^ Maybe a little bit.

But Scratch: Ultimate DJ and DJ Hero are gonna end up having a feud akin to Rock Band and Guitar Hero unless one of these two are clearly superior.

  • can't wait for this game to come out. This game might actually take me away from halo3 for a while. I hope its as good as it looks. and gotta nice price(not really)$119.00 or $200.00. i think its going to be worth it

  • 100-200 dollers for a game NO :(

  • Looking forward to this! Ive heard its like learning guitar hero all over again.

  • Dj hero is an awesome game

  • good more music

  • I think because of this game and virtual DJ on the computer I wanna be a real DJ like Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel.

  • i think im get it

  • I am a big fan of DJ Hero. The guitar hero and Rock Band ruled the market for far too long. I am no guitar player, but I have DJ in the past. Spinning that wheel makes sense to me. The game has great music and I hope they will expand the game with more tracks.

I would love to see if they could implement 2 Player battle via split screen or online. Also, maybe just maybe a create your mix. I doubt they will do that one, but it would be nice.

  • They sure are my heroes too.

  • I was told that DJ Hero killed the hero franchise. But I'm pretty sure Activision did it to themselves by milking the series dry.
