Replay – Tales Of Vesperia

by Andrew Reiner on Jan 06, 2017 at 02:00 PM

We recently took a look at Legend of Dragoon, one of my all-time favorite RPGs. That off-the-wall pick for Replay was received well, so I figured we would dive into the RPG well again with another Reiner-certified pick. Tales of Vesperia is an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 JRPG that puts its character ensemble front and center. The beginning is slow (something I feared for an episode of Replay), but it does a nice job of setting the game's tone and establishing Yuri as the lead protagonist. You can read Matt Miller's review of the game here.

We shy away from RPGs on this show given just how difficult they can be to demo, so please let us know if you like (or hate) seeing games like these on the show. There's a mountain of games just like it that we would love to introduce to you, but, well, maybe that isn't what Replay is for. Your feedback will help determine what we do next. It always does.

In our second segment, we stick to our guns with another RPG that is cited as the PlayStation's first. It's an odd title that ended up impressing our crew with its stylish battle system.

I hope you enjoy the episode and come back again in seven days for another look at the game's of yesteryear. Replay: Season 4 is right around the corner, so expect plenty of experimenting in the week's to come. Have a great weekend, everyone!
