Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (November 10, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on Nov 10, 2016 at 05:04 AM

The new Modern Warfare remaster, the use of color in games, and video game characters for president are all topics covered by G.I.'s talented blogging community in this week's Blog Herding. Time to get reading!

Community Blogs For November 3 – November 9:

What Assassin's Creed Should Do With The Extra Year
After reading Refle's blog headline I thought the apocalypse was upon us. Assassin's Creed games are as reliable as seeing the sun each day. Anyway, our blogger has a list of things that are key to focus on with the extra time, such as the setting and a stronger emphasis on story. I still want ninjas.

What Video Game Character Do You Want For President?
Clearly Luigi has the humility and determined character for the job, but Haley Shipley has other plans as to which video game characters should be president. It's a fun, lighthearted blog that is sorely needed during an election that has been anything but.

Modern Warfare Remastered Is A Bad Remaster
Our blogger knows just how important and awesome Modern Warfare was when it first released, which makes General Mills44 that much sadder to report that the remaster needs to lag the heck out of here. But perhaps our blogger says it best, writing how the game just did not get enough love and time to make it something enjoyable years later.

GI Mobile App: Early Impressions
Brendon Curzio is here to tell you if Game Informer unlocked an achievement or unleashed the Red Ring of Death upon us with its new app. And you know what? Looks like the new app is just as successful as Reiner's beloved Chicago Cubs.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: Give Me More Colorful Games
Colorful games seem to be kind of a rarity as far as Haley Shipley is concerned. Gamers see a lot of similar color palettes in games, but there is nothing wrong with getting all Wind Waker up in here. In addition to our cartoony Link, Shipley writes about a lot of games that do color very, very well. One I'd like to add is Skies of Arcadia. That game, along with many of Sega's hits on the Dreamcast, were just so fun to look at.

Community Writing Challenge: Features I Would Love To See In Games
GerardoExber does not ask for much, but what he does ask for makes sense. I like realistic graphics as much as the next guy, but absolutely swoon over Kirby in yarn form. Why? Because it is different. Good writing is also a good thing to have in any medium if that's what you're there for.

CWC November 3, 2016: Feature the Music!
Cru Hunter is all about the music in this blog. And while it is nice to run around and beat up baddies, the emotional attachment we have to a certain game can come down to the score we hear while doing so. There are some songs I will never get out of my head thanks to video games.

Community Writing Challenge:

Let's play video game developer for a second. Choose a game and write about the way or ways you would improve upon it. Maybe it's a plot twist, gameplay mechanic, or way a certain character just grinds your gears. I think every Super Mario game can be improved upon by adding more Luigi and Cat Toad.
