Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (July 21, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on Jul 21, 2016 at 09:46 AM

While I’m surprised by the lack of Pokémon blogs this week, the community more than makes up for it with some deeply personal posts, a video, and some creative slinging of words.

Community Blogs For July 14 – July 20:

Thank You, Blizzard For Giving Us Strong Female Characters
Life is hard, and Rebekah is quick to point this out in her blog. But thanks to games like Overwatch and its numerous awesome characters, Rebekah has found a way to become inspired. She’s also getting a haircut that matches Zarya’s! Side note: I totally took inspiration from the last line of this blog for this week’s writing challenge.

Is Call of Duty’s Narrow Skill-Gap Ruining Multiplayer Gaming?
Is there not much skill to pwning noobs online in Call of Duty? Well, yamut_alkuffar is giving us his two pennies on the subject, and he says it best: it’s all about how fun it is, regardless of whether or not its casual or hardcore.

Top 10 Games with Awful Difficulty…
Sometimes a game makes you want to chuck your controller against the wall. According to StarterPack, these are 10 games that seem to want you to do just that. He gets cool points for using some hilarious and very accurate Monster Hunter gifs, which show how punishing a hunt can be.

5 Games I Wish You Would Play
Born4this was inspired by a recent Game Informer podcast about underrated games, and thus formed this list of his own. Just like a chest of rare loot, this blog contains some incredible gems.

The Best Games I’ve Played (So Far) in 2016
You won’t find all the new releases in GerardoExber’s list, but it kind of makes it more interesting that way. Heck, I’m still working through an old Xbox release after finally starting it in January of this year, and it’s blowing me away.

Developing a game in gamemaker studios (video blog)
Boo says to heck with words. Instead, he’s doing a video blogging series capturing his journey to become a video game developer. This is just the beginning, so the video is short, but we’re rootin’ for you!

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: Pokémon GO: Music Festival Edition
Combining your favorite musician playing live with Pokémon Go seems pretty rad and possibly overbearing, but that’s just what Haley did. I mean, catching a Jynx doesn’t seem that exciting (it’s a horribly designed Pocket Monster), but how cool would it be to do that while in line for a drink at a rad concert?

Community Writing Challenge:

Community stalwart Rebekah Lang inspired this week’s challenge thanks to her Blizzard blog. Give it a read for an idea of what we’re looking for. Has a video game ever had a positive effect on you in the real world? Did FIFA inspire you to try new soccer moves and become slightly above average at the sport (that’s me)? Did Pokémon Go get you out of the house? Get writing!

Community playdate:

None this week!

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
