Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (March 17, 2016)
This week rocks. Our community rocks. Your blogs rock. Thank you all for writing such wonderful words.
Community Blogs For March 10 – March 16:
How
much do your favorite video game characters drink?
Refle takes us on a wild ride to figure out just how much the Hero of Time,
Master Chief, and other gaming icons would drink. Stick around to read how much
Luigi would drink. It's both hilarious and heartbreaking.
Hunter
or Hunted? The Thrill of the Chase in Far Cry Primal
Kyle Wadsworth writes about the latest Far Cry game, specifically when it comes
to you and its many beasts. It's a seriously in-depth blog about what it is
like to hunt the many beasts in the game, and a fun read thanks to the
commentary.
This
week's Genre: Old Westerns
Cyndaquill read my mind by writing this look at western video games. Red Dead
Redemption receives a lot of love, but Gun – probably my favorite western and
early Xbox 360 game – also gets some praise. Red may be the better game according
to critics, but I'd much rather play the simplistic yet bombastic Gun any day.
Do
We Have to Like Video Game Protagonists?
Haley Shipley has a question for all of us: Do heroes in video games need to be
likable? I'm...on the fence on this one. I used to need good heroes and good
endings, but as I've grown older, I've found the grayness of it all to be
super important. She uses Life is Strange to make her points, and it's a
wonderful read that makes you think.
Best
Sniper Rifles (From A Crappy Sniper)
Psykologic gives us an interesting list of sniper rifles. It's interesting
because our blogger claims to be a poor sniper (I am too). It's a fun read. And
I would like to say I absolutely love the alien sniper rifle in Perfect Dark.
Good stuff.
Checkpoint:
My Gaming & Writing Ordeal
GerardoExber has been one of our most prolific bloggers in recent memory, and
his latest blog is a reflection on his time writing. He...has a backlog, like
many of us. Writing so diligently has affected his completion of said backlog.
He's going to blog less, beat more games, and continue with writing challenges.
I wish you well, sir. My backlog is over a decade old.
5
Sequels That Did It Right
Dalin Briggs gives praise to the sequels that hit homeruns. His first game is
Borderlands 2, so you know this list is 100-percent correct (I really enjoy
this series). The rest of the games on this list are also very good, so give
this blog a read – and your input.
Community Reviews:
Assault
Android Cactus Review
Enuo reviews a game I've never heard of. But you can bet your butt that I know
all about this shooter now, and really, really want to play it. This colorful
adventure is polished and perfectly balanced, according to our blogger. If
you're into shooting up baddies, this is for you.
The
Division Review – Unremarkable
Edwinjoe450 reviews the flavor of the week: The Division. This game has been
hyped up, but our blogger gives his honest take on the game. And while it may
have some issues, he ultimately writes that it's a solid game that "can be
really addicting...but never really stands out."
Community Writing Challenge:
Who is the most over-rated hero in video games? This writing challenge idea comes from blogger Dalin Briggs (also featured above), and it's a great one. I think Cloud from Final Fantasy VII fits the bill.
Community Playdate:
No gaming this week. I'll be on vacation in another state.
I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
