10 Characters Who Should Be In Star Wars Battlefront Before Nien Nunb
Following today's surprising announcement of Nien Nunb and Greedo joining Star Wars Battlefront's minuscule roster of playable heroes, we dove into the Star Wars archives to see if we could come up with a list of 10 characters who make more sense for Battlefront's fast-paced combat than the temporary co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon and the bounty hunter who died sitting at a bar table.
Greedo and Nien Nunb are strange choices on DICE and Electronic Arts' part, especially when you look at the wealth of recognizable characters not yet in the game, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't excited to play as them. What we know about Greedo and Nien Nunb is based solely on their motion-picture appearances. We'll have to wait to see what DICE does with them on the Battlefield before complaining too much about their inclusion.
Regardless though, seeing them get the call before any of the characters in the list below is worth complaining about. Here's who we'd like to see in the game next:
Chewbacca
Let the Wookiee win. Chewbacca should be the next character that EA and DICE incorporate into the game. In fact, we're surprised he wasn't a part of the launch lineup of characters. Chewbacca has proven to be a skilled combatant in the films, relying on his trusty bowcaster to dispatch Imperial forces. There's a chance his height may be an issue for navigational purposes, but that's something DICE should have been thinking of from the outset of Battlefront's development. Chewbacca needs to be in this game.
Lando
Similar to Nien Nunb and Greedo, we haven't seen Lando in action in the films, but he's one of the most beloved heroes in the series, and should have gotten the nod before his co-pilot. There's a good chance DICE is saving Lando for the forthcoming Bespin DLC, but his disguise could have synced up with the Jabba Palace map.
Near-Death Version of Yoda
Holding true to the classic trilogy's interpretation of the character, the near-death version of Yoda would call upon powerful force attacks, but move slower than any other character, due to his need for a cane. His diminutive size would offset his speed, making him a tough target to pinpoint if he isn't out in the open.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Seeing Old Ben square off against Darth Vader would be a real treat. How powerful was he before his death? DICE could explore this in his move set. We just hope his ability to make strange sounds to scare off Tusken Raiders is a part of the mix.
Any One Of The Bounty Hunters
Bossk, Dengar, IG-88, Zuckuss, and 4-LOM are all characters we wanted to see more of in the films. Bossk is probably the leading candidate from this group, given his menacing appearance, but Dengar, who has apparently been shot or stabbed on every part of his heavily bandaged body, could be a cool tank-like character.
Darth Maul
If you're not keeping up on Star Wars' new canon, Darth Maul is alive and well and is currently a part of the Star Wars Rebels TV show. Yes, it's lame he's back, but why not include him if he's an option on the table? DICE has already veered outside of the classic trilogy of films with the Sullust and Jakku maps.
Royal Guard
These walking carpets are the sworn protectors of the Emperor, but we haven't seen them do anything other than walk down the ramp of a ship. We'd like to see what DICE could do with these cool-looking Imperial characters.
Any Character From Star Wars Rebels
We could see Zeb, Ezra, and Kanan turning into great characters, but Sabine makes the most sense, as she is essentially the hero equivalent of Boba Fett. That's another battle we would love to see. Again, these characters are all canon and are tied to the classic trilogy setting.
Battle Droid With C-3PO's Head
Yes, this is a joke, but it's still a better pick than Nien Nunb.
The Guy From Cheers
Bren Derlin was just a background character in the Empire Strikes Back's Battle of Hoth, but seeing that it's Cheers' Cliff Claven (John Ratzenberger) under the dirty snow gear, he deserves the spotlight. DICE can make this happen. Also, he's cooler than Nien Nunb.
