The Five Best Pets Of E3 2015

by Matt Miller on Jun 20, 2015 at 08:01 AM

If you've been watching coverage of this week's big show, then you can't help but have noticed how many friendly pets are joining our heroes and heroines this year. We've pulled together our favorite four-legged friends from E3 2015 and ranked them, along with links to learn more about the games in which they appear. Enjoy!

5. The Tattooed Unicorn

Trials Fusion: Awesome Level Max seems to be going the Blood Dragon route, with a ridiculous switch-up allowing players to control a cat who rides a tattooed unicorn through insane obstacle courses. While we’re all for the chance to ride unicorns, we think Ubisoft made the right decision by allowing that unicorn to snort fire. That’s just common sense. Watch the trailer

4. Yoshi’s Woolly Poochy

Normally, Yoshi is the steadfast mount to Mario, but when Yoshi needs a ride, he turns to Poochy. The slobbering yarn dog will bark when important items are around, and that’s on top of his adorable, friendly smile. Explore our preview of Yoshi’s Woolly World to learn more about Yoshi and Poochy’s adventure.

3. Buddy The Robot Dog

Microsoft’s press conference introduced us to Recore, a new game from Keiji Inafune and Armature. The game depicts a young woman named Joule traveling through a devastated wasteland with a robotic dog as her only companion. To save his friend, Buddy bravely explodes his own body, leaving behind a glowing core, which our heroine promptly slots into a new robotic body. Check out the full trailer, which seems to indicate “Buddy” might be a pretty central feature of the game.

2. Fallout 4’s Dog

Dog companions have often played an important role in Fallout games, but it seems like the opportunity for compelling interactions with your canine is higher than ever in this year’s game. We were so fascinated by Fallout 4’s dog that we devoted a whole feature just to the mutt, including some exhaustive research (sort of) that we feel confidently concludes the dog’s gender. Plus, read 19 facts fans need to know about Bethesda’s upcoming post-apocalyptic game.

1. The Last Guardian

“Eobye!” When that little boy calls his gigantic friend to his side and snuggles up to his head, even the most jaded of gaming hearts melted. The Last Guardian has been absent for far too long, and we were excited to see the massive beast in action, integrated into the puzzles and exploration. Watch the game’s trailer and read about the extended demo.
