The Most Destructive Eggs In Video Games

by Kyle Hilliard on Apr 05, 2015 at 08:46 AM

Eggs are frail and offer evidence of new life, but not these eggs. These eggs only destroy. In honor of the Easter holiday, we consider eggs and their deadly application in the world of video games.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Yoshi’s eggs
Yoshi’s cavalcade of kamikaze eggs that follow him everywhere he goes serve to destroy at every opportunity. Whether it’s to collapse question mark clouds from the sky, or hit that weak spot on a giant enemy, every egg that leaves Yoshi’s hands have a destructive goal in mind. With their limited life span, it’s fair to assume that all these eggs know is destruction.

Banjo-Kazooie
Kazooie’s eggs
Kazooie, the bird part of the bear and bird combo, has the curious skill of laying eggs from the normal bird avenues, but also from her mouth. She uses this as an attack, with the ability to violently eject eggs from her throat, but she can also fart them out from behind in a leisurely attack that can be just as brutal. By the time Banjo-Tooie rolled around, Kazooie had also learned to use her eggs like a sniper bullet, and fire them while flying.

Mega Man X
Storm Eagle’s egg attack
Storm Eagle uses his eggs (or her eggs as I suppose would make more sense) in a similar fashion as Yoshi and Kazooie. They eject from Storm Eagle’s mouth and are shot towards X as an attack. Unlike Yoshi, though, these eggs don’t just break. These eggs burst apart into small robot birds. You can destroy them, or you can just let them fly off into the distance and start their own lives.

Woah Dave!
Alien eggs
A newcomer, compared to most on this list, Woah Dave! tasks players, as Dave Lonuts, to prevent an alien egg invasion. Dave can throw the eggs like Yoshi, which he absolutely should, because if he doesn’t, they burst into little aliens that will only grow stronger.

Angry Birds
Matlida’s eggs
In Angry Birds, players must retrieve their eggs from evil pigs by flinging themselves at their poorly built structures. In Matilda’s mind, you have to spend money to make money, so to speak, and fires eggs below her on her journey to retrieve the eggs that were stolen.

Pokémon
Egg bomb
In Pokémon, the egg bomb has been around since the very beginning. It’s an attack that lives up to its name in that it is an egg that is a bomb that is thrown at your opponent. It has no secondary effects – it just does straight damage.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door/Super Paper Mario
Egg bomb
Much like the Pokémon attack, the egg bomb in Paper Mario basically works the same way. It’s an egg that is a bomb that is thrown at your opponent. It must be crafted from ingredients and it makes appearances in both Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario.

Sonic the Hedgehog
Doctor “Eggman” Robotnik
Part robot, part man, and very little egg, Doctor Eggman is known around the United States as Doctor Robotnik. He’s not technically an egg, but he kind of looks like one. He is Sonic’s brilliant arch nemesis, and though eggs play a small part in his bid to take over the world (outside of aesthetic inspiration), it’s enough to earn him a spot on this list.
