The Pulse – Game Informer's Weekly Top 10 (Mar 9, 2015)

by Andrew Reiner on Mar 09, 2015 at 01:42 PM

The Pulse is Game Informer's weekly ranking of the hottest games according to our team. Each Monday we tally up the games with the biggest buzz based on number of editors playing and the time they put into them.

Outside of Helldivers and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate receiving a fair amount of play time, editors were all over the place this week, dabbling in new releases, and doing their best to reduce their ever-growing stacks of unfinished games.

What the list doesn't show is a return by a couple of editors to Evolve, a game that had no support whatsoever last week. Support in episodic games, even those releasing weekly, is proving to be a turn-off for a number of staffers, who would rather experience the entire game at once.

Other notable gaming habits include Andy McNamara's devotion to Clash of Clans. He's the only staffer who plays it, and he plays it daily. Grow Home, Super Smash Bros., and Danganronpa 2 were also played by editors last week.

Week 5 ratings: March 1-7
1
HELLDIVERS
Last week: 3
Cooperative multiplayer continues to dominate in Game Informer's office. Helldivers' brutal difficulty and often hilarious friendly fire mishaps drew in the majority of our staffers last week. Emails for post-work multiplayer sessions were rattled off daily.
2
MONSTER HUNTER 4 ULTIMATE
Last week: 1
Don't think for a second that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate's support in the office is dwindling. The same people obsessing over this game for the better part of the month continue to play it daily. It doesn't look like this one is leaving the list anytime soon.
3
DESTINY
Last week: 6
A dedicated group of editors play Destiny daily. A few unexpected people (like Ben Hanson) jumped back in last week, giving it a bump in the charts.
4
DMC DEVIL MAY CRY: DEFINITIVE EDITION
Last week: --
Most of the staff played DMC Devil May Cry when it originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The need to go back and experience it again didn't resonate with most of the staff, but a few of us are currently working through the game for a second, third, or eighth time (if you're Joe Juba). Look for our review in the early hours tomorrow morning!
5
RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS 2
Last week: 2
Several editors stayed with Resident Evil Revelations 2's weekly release schedule, although a few did avoid it with the intent of playing all four installments at once.
6
DYING LIGHT
Last week: 4
Progress in Dying Light continues to be made by Mike Futter, Andrew Reiner, Tim Turi, and other editors. With so many new multiplayer games hitting, the zombie-slaying crew is finding it difficult to devote significant chunks of time into this experience.
7
WHITE NIGHT
Last week: --
If you've watched any of our Super Replays, you know many of us are fond of old-school survival horror titles. White Night is scratching that itch, but it's not without its problems. The late-game content is proving to be a little irksome for some staffers, and may lead to the game being shelved prematurely.
8
ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST
Last week: --
Most staffers have been looking forward to this release since it was announced at E3. A few of us got our hands on it early and put it through its paces. Our review for Ori hits tonight at 10 p.m. CT.
9
MARIO VS DONKEY KONG: TIPPING STARS
Last week: --
Any Mario game that releases gets support from a fair number of editors. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars was played by a few editors on the go, but didn't fare favorably. Don't expect this one to return on the charts next week.
10
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK
Last week: 8
Majora's Mask's days on the list also appear to be numbered. More people finished the game, and it's only being played minimally by a few others. Regardless, Zelda held its own nicely since The Pulse started.
