Readers Select 25 Women (And 5 Men) They Want To See Play Lara Croft In The Tomb Raider Movie

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 01, 2015 at 01:05 PM

A few days ago, new details were revealed about the in-development Tomb Raider film. We offered some suggestions for how to make the best of the film, but a big question remains: Who should play Lara? We've previously suggested Olivia Wilde among others, but we decided to ask readers who they thought would be a best fit for the iconic role, and these are the results.

Readers suggested more than 25 actors they thought would fit best for the role, and we tallied up the results.

Camilla Luddington was the clear winner, but she does have an unfair advantage over everybody else: she already plays Lara Croft. Lauren Cohan (seen above already in tomb raiding-appropriate clothing) and Emily Blunt tied for second. Cohan is know primarily for playing Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead TV show, and Emily Blunt has appeared in a number of films, most recently in Edge of Tomorrow and Into the Woods.

Next up, readers called for Angelina Jolie to reprise the role, or for Olivia Wilde (who technically already played a video game character in Tron: Legacy) to inherit the Croft fortune. As you can see with the final entry above, a few readers also suggested they abandon a new Tomb Raider movie and keep Lara's adventures video game exclusives.

The others listed above were all mentioned at least twice, but a number of readers suggested actors that were only mentioned once, including Taryn Southern, Tatiana Maslany, Anna Kendrick, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Lyndsay Fonseca, Christina Hendricks, Jessical Biel, Emilia Clarke, Nazanin Boniadi, Natalie Portman, Odette Yustman, and Emily Browning.

Finally, a few readers suggested a complete overhaul of the Tomb Raider franchise and offered up a few men that would be perfect for the role of an empowered female explorer. You can check out those results below.
