The Pulse: Game Informer's Weekly Top 10

by Andrew Reiner on Feb 09, 2015 at 09:39 AM

The Pulse is Game Informer's weekly ranking of the hottest games according to our team. Each Monday we tally up the games with the biggest buzz based on number of editors playing and the time they put into them.

Since this is our first week, there is no movement in the list. Check back next week to see how The Pulse shifts as new games release and others pull editors in.

While most big releases (even those not available to the general public) are getting significant play time here, note that some favorites from fall 2014 are hanging on. Also, it's worth mentioning two titles that almost made the list, but couldn't crack it this week. If you're missing Dragon Age: Inquisition, Sunless Sea, Threes, and PlayStation Plus title Apotheon from the list, know that they were getting attention, but not quite enough to make the top 10. Our editors played over 40 different games. Here are the top 10:

Week 1 ratings: February 1-7
1
EVOLVE
Last week: --
The competitive juices are flowing at Game Informer. Roughly half of the staff is currently playing Evolve on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This unique 4v1 multiplayer experience appears to have legs in this slow season for games.
2
DYING LIGHT
Last week: --
The staff is also dedicating a good amount of time into cooperative sessions for Dying Light on Xbox One. Make sure you follow Jeff Cork (Traintruction), Mike Futter (PaladinXII), and me (Reinak) on Xbox One for video highlights of the quest.
3
DESTINY
Last week: --
Although Evolve is the hot new multiplayer experience in the office, it hasn't made a dent in Game Informer's Destiny play time. Andy McNamara, Matt Miller, and Mike Futter continue to play the game daily on PlayStation 4.
4
DARKEST DUNGEON
Last week: --
Even though it's early access, Darkest Dungeon is creating a lot of buzz in the office with its dark, roguelike gameplay. Dan Tack is talking this game up like you wouldn't believe, and its legion of players in the office is growing.
5
GRAND THEFT AUTO V
Last week: --
Interest is growing to get a large group of editors back into Grand Theft Auto V's multiplayer. Matt Bertz, Brian Shea, and me are either playing the game actively or are rallying troops to join in.
6
MONSTER HUNTER 4 ULTIMATE
Last week: --
It doesn't release until this Friday, but several GI staffers have been teaming up for hunts against giant beasts for weeks. Tim Turi (who is writing our review), Kim Wallace, and Joe Juba are deep into this complex action/RPG.
7
HEROES OF THE STORM
Last week: --
The staff plays a fair number of MOBAs each week, but the current favorite is Heroes of the Storm. Thanks to recent updates that include Thrall and the Sky Temple map, the gameplay remains dynamic and fresh week after week.
8
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK 3D
Last week: --
The office copy of Majora's Mask is in high demand and has already been played by several people. Expect Majora's Mask to get a bump in the rankings next week when staffers pick up their New 3DS and the game this Friday.
9
ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY
Last week: --
After receiving a number of patches that fix a mountain of bugs and glitches, a few of us are finally working our way through Assassin's Creed Unity.
10
HEROES CHARGE
Last week: --
Capitalizing on a primetime marketing blitz on ESPN and during the Super Bowl, Heroes Charge offers quirky, addictive RPG gameplay with collection and progression elements. Staffers are playing it on iOS.
