How To Get A Dracolisk Mount In Dragon Age: Inquisition

by Joe Juba on Nov 18, 2014 at 03:30 AM

You get a basic horse early in your journey, but if you want to ride on something more exotic in Dragon Age: Inquisition, you need to do some extra work. The dracolisk is a mount that makes a statement, but it isn’t available to buy at any old stable. So how do you get one? Follow this simple guide.

The first step is the hardest: You need to kill a dragon. It doesn’t matter which one. I chose to fight the Ferelden Frostback in Lady Shayna’s Valley in the Hinterlands, but several others are roaming the various areas of Ferelden and Orlais. Unfortunately, the dragon-killing requirement means that you need to reach a reasonably high level before getting your dracolisk; don’t expect to get one right after the prologue. But, once the job is done, you should loot the beast’s body and head back to Skyhold.

At the war table, you will notice a new operation available on the Orlais half of the war table called “The Hunter Shade Dracolisk." It takes several hours to finish, but Josephine gets it done a little quicker than Lelianna or Cullen. All you can do for now is set the operation in motion – go explore new areas and do some other quests while you wait for the final report.

When the operation is complete, your advisor informs you that the dracolisk has been acquired, and the creature is waiting in the stable. All you need to is walk over to that section of Skyhold and change your active mount by interacting with your current mount in the stable (pictured below).

Don't forget: The stable also has a mount-related shop, and new color variations for the dracolisk are available for purchase after the initial unlock. If the original look isn't to your liking, you can spend some money to acquire more intimidating versions of the strange beast.

That's all there is to it! Of course, Dragon Age: Inquisition (our review) has many more secrets to unlock, and this quest is just scratching the surface.
