Breaking Down The Developer Top Five Lists

Now that you've seen the 35 developer lists chronicling their favorite games of the Xbox 360/Wii/PlayStation 3 console generation, it's time to crunch the numbers. Find out which game finished with the most votes, which games were snubbed, and which studio won over the most hearts last generation.

After parsing through the numbers, here are a few discussion topics that stood out to us.

  • The top vote-getting game was BioShock, with nine tallies. If you include all of the games in a series in the vote tally, then Uncharted would take the top spot with 12 tallies.
  • Following BioShock and Uncharted, seven series garnered seven votes apiece: Batman, Red Dead Redemption, Journey, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, and Rock Band.
  • The studio that garnered the most votes was Naughty Dog, with 18 total votes between the Uncharted series and The Last of Us.
  • The publisher that garnered the most votes was Sony Computer Entertainment, with 36 tallies. Take-Two came in a distant second, with Bethesda, Microsoft, and Nintendo rounding out the top five.
  • Looking at Xbox 360 exclusives, Crackdown had the same amount of votes as Halo and Gears of War combined.
  • The Super Mario, Super Smash Bros., and Wii Sports series outpaced The Legend of Zelda in votes for Nintendo exclusives.
  • The worst faring game from Game Informer's Top 25 Xbox 360 list was Mass Effect 2. This BioWare developed game landed in our number four slot, but only garnered one vote from the game developers.
  • Participants were nearly split down the middle on which Fallout game was better – Bethesda's excellent Fallout 3 or Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas, which many felt kept more in line with the original games. Four voters picked Fallout 3, while three chose New Vegas. The argument continues...
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim received all seven votes for the series, meaning Oblivion was shut out.
  • The only series officially on hiatus that received more than one vote were Rock Band, Viva Piñata, and Alan Wake.
  • 24 out of a possible 175 votes went to games created by Japanese developers.
  • The four indie games that garnered more than one vote were Journey, Limbo, Flower, and Braid.
