How To Get The Swift Sail In Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

by Dan Ryckert on Oct 04, 2013 at 10:27 AM

Nintendo released the retail version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD today, and if you've read my review you already know I love it. One of the main reasons it's a more enjoyable experience than its predecessor is the addition of the Swift Sail, an item that remedies the tedious sailing from the past. Since the game doesn't explicitly tell you how to get it (outside of one fish that hints at it if you feed him bait), I wanted to put together this little PSA to ensure Zelda fans can grab this invaluable item as soon as possible.

After completing the first true dungeon in the game (Dragon Roost Cavern), sail to Windfall Island at night. Once there, head up the stairs to the auction house. While the Swift Sail may not be the first item up for bid, it should show up fairly soon. To bid, jam on the A button to fill a meter, and then decide how much money you want to put down. If you bid high enough, the other bidders will be dazed and unable to bid any of their own rupees. Because of this, you'll want to time a big bid near the end of the bidding window.

Once you've won the item, head back to the King of Red Lions. You'll reap its rewards immediately, as simply pressing the A button once you start sailing will switch the sail from blue to red and you'll be travelling at twice the speed. Even better, the wind is always at your back, meaning you'll never have to change direction while sailing again.
