Test Chamber – Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

by Tim Turi on Jul 29, 2013 at 06:00 AM

The classic 1990 Sega Genesis title Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is being remade by Sega in high-definition. The downloadable platformer (not to be confused with DreamRift's 3DS title) is coming to PSN, XBLA, and PC this summer. We got to play through the beginning stages of the game, where Mickey leaps off sentient mushrooms and ghosts in an enchanted forest.

The challenging side-scroller features seven distinct worlds, each culminating in a tricky boss battle either in 2D or 3D. Bosses like the enchanted forest's mean tree enemy are holding special gems used to unlock the final area in the Castle of Illusion. Former Rare composer Grant Kirkhope (Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark), has remade the soundtrack for the game, even though in this Test Chamber we activate the option to use the original 16-bit tunes. Also new on the audio front is a classic Disney-style narration from Richard McGonagle, the voice actor of Sully in the Uncharted series.

Join Andrew Reiner, Jason Oestreicher, and myself as we dive into the whimsical world of Castle of Illusion.
