The lights are on
The weather in Minneapolis is beautiful— but that will not keep GI's staff from catching up on some much needed gaming time. This weekend, editor picks include several zombie titles: State of Decay, The Last of Us, and The Walking Dead: 400 days. A few will also be replaying Grand Theft Auto IV to curb excitement for the fifth title in the series.
Tim Turi: This weekend I will continue to harvest and speak with the denizens of Scumtown, my Animal Crossing settlement. I also intend to continue scavenging for supplies and clearing out infestations in State of Decay. I’ve had trouble containing my excitement for Grand Theft Auto V, so I started playing GTA IV’s The Ballad of Gay Tony to curb my hunger. So far, so good.
Jeff Marchiafava: This weekend I plan on playing more State of Decay. I’ve only lost one survivor so far – I waited too long to fetch the doctor for poor Ed. How was I supposed to know there was an actual time window for doing the mission? Now I feel bad that I spent all that time scavenging for materials instead of helping my friend, but on the plus side, I’ve got half the materials I need to build a library. Nothing lessens the pain of loss like a good book!
Ben Hanson: This weekend I need to play a certain game for research for an upcoming cover story, but I can't stop watching Game of Thrones on HBO Go. So outside of that, I might continue to play The Last of Us and the excellent State of Decay. There is also a mobile game called Tiny Thief that is really charming and is grabbing my attention, it's a stealth/puzzle game with the level structure of Angry Birds.
Joe Juba: Lately, I've been in the mood for Strategy RPGs. I enjoy the genre a lot, but I sometimes go a year or two without playing one of them. This weekend, I've decided to dive into Disgaea 4, which I've never played before. I loved Disgaea 1 and 2 (and missed 3), so I'm eager to see how the series' transition to the current generation has gone.
Andrew Reiner: My first order of business is to finish off The Walking Dead: 400 Days on Xbox 360. After that, I have no idea what I'm going to play. I've been dying to play a JRPG lately. Maybe I'll give Tales of Xillia a whirl. On the movie front, I'm seeing Pacific Rim tonight. I'm way behind on my comics and will have to fly through at least 15 issues if I want to catch up before next Wednesday's releases.
Mike Futter: I'll be finishing the The Last of Us and probably working on finally finishing Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. I feel an RPG kick coming on, and I need to clear the decks.
Matthew Kato: Due to my excitement for Grand Theft Auto V, I've actually started playing GTA IV again. When I say again, I say that with the caveat that I've never finished a GTA title. I've started many of them – like GTA IV – but never even come close to finishing them. It's like I'm excited for them in principle, but can't carry-through on the execution. Maybe this time will be different, or maybe I'm just not a GTA fan.
Liz Lanier: After finishing The Last of Us, I’ve had a difficult time finding a game to hold my interest. However, like the editors, I’m excited for Grand Theft Auto V. And like Kato, I’ve never completed a GTA game. Time to pop Grand Theft Auto IV back in and give it another try this weekend. If that doesn’t do the trick to get me past the slump after beating The Last of Us, I will be finishing up my playthrough of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney— a title I am finally getting around to.
Let us know what game will have your attention this weekend in the comments.
After a busy weekend on the 6th and 7th, got a lot of downtime now. Will see Monsters University at the cinema with some friends, and get into the Company of Heroes 2 campaign.
I will be continuing to play through the Last of Us. It is a masterpiece of a game that does an excellent job of setting the tone. I am pretty far now and I think I'm coming towards the end. For some reason I think that it will end sadly, I guess I will see. I also will try and finish my play through of Bioshock Infinite, also a great game. My favorite part about the game is the main character Elizabeth.
be finishing up tomb raider, got that during the xbox sale (loving it so far) got me excited for another one, then moving onto remember me, with a little battleblock theatre mixed in.
Unless you see Pacific Rim in Imax 3-D, you are not doing it justice.
Been playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and loving it so I will continue to work on that this weekend. Also been playing Street Fighter IV but it's kicking my butt. Rock Band or Guitar Hero might also get some attention as I still love those games and I might also play some Call of Duty with friends. GAMES!!! :D
I have spent way too much money on the steam sale. I'm now waiting for Far Cry 3 to get down to $15. Until then, I'll have Skyrim and GTA IV to keep me busy.
I really need to finish Fire Emblem: Awakening and Ni no Kuni before SMTIV arrives on Tuesday, but I just got a boatload of homework thrown at me, and for some stupid reason we have to have it turned in by Wednesday if we want full credit, even though it's due on Friday....? Good old college. I guess that's what I get for following a dream.
Steam sales are hounding after my wallet, but I'm trying to only purchase what I want from daily deals until I get paid next week and can delve into what's on sale the whole time. So far I've gotten Antichamber, FTL and Ys I and II. I tallied up my interested games and it came out to about $75. >.<
I just beat The Last of Us and Saints Row the Third last night so I'm probably going to try and finish up GTA IV and maybe get into Ratchet and Clank HD.
My days will be filled with Civilization V, Minecraft and Black Ops 2.
Well Kato you are not alone I too have not a care in the world for GTA, I did however absolutely love Red Dead Redemption. Anyways regarding my weekend, I will most likely hangout home for the most part and maybe continue gathering trophies. I would also like to finish Persona 4, but I'm only on like month 2 in the game...
Fire Emblem:Awakening, MGS 2, Grandia, and I might get Fire Emblem:Shadow Dragon.
Not feeling Dead Space 3 so I'm going to give it back to my friend who let me borrow it. I may finish up the old Walking Dead Tell Tale game but most of my time will be spent immersing myself in Ace Attorney : Justice For All. FINALLY found it for sale and it's the last game in the series I have yet to gleefully experience.
I've also been tempted to replay PacMan C3 DX
i just beat the last of us good game... on the other hand I've had dead space 3 since release date and haven't even played it yet
Last night I finished up Sideway: New York for PS3, and I enjoyed it a lot minus a couple of frame rate issues in the final boss fight. For the rest of the weekend, I plan on continuing my play-through's of The Last of Us, and Tomb Raider.
Animal Cracking...I mean Crossing will also take up some time as well. I have to make sure to go by the club and pick up a new tune from K.K. Slider.
Aw ya Reiner, didnt know you were into comics.
Im a Rocket Raccoon fan myself
I am in exactly the same position as Mr. Kato regarding GTA. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this same experience with the games.
I have become completely addicted to Dragon's Dogma. Aside from that, I might try one of the games I downloaded during the XBL sale from a couple weeks ago (Hitman looks like a nice change of pace).
