The lights are on
Lately, I have struggled with splitting my time between playing current titles and playing older ones. Too many games exist that I never tried out – either because I wasn’t old enough to hold a controller or because I just didn’t play a title around its release window.
Most recently, I desperately want to play the classic RPG Earthbound. Not only do I not own an SNES, I also don’t have $200 to drop on a copy of the game. Thankfully, the title will be coming to Virtual Console, making the adventure more accessible to those who missed it the first time around.
Playing classics at a reduced price has become even more common with the growing number of downloadable titles available on PSN, XBLA, Steam, and Nintendo’s Virtual Console. But, many are still left out of the loop.
Not only is this an issue with older games, but also with downloadable versions that have not been imported. For example, I have previously mentioned my love of Brave Fencer Musashi. That title is available on the Japanese PlayStation store for a reasonable 600 yen – roughly six dollars. This is undeniably a much more affordable option than tracking down a copy on eBay.
Even when the older games I want to play are not outrageously priced because of their rarity, they are often priced similarly to current-gen titles. Although I would like to play many older titles and broaden my gaming knowledge, I have a very hard time convincing myself it is worth the extra money. I play games; I don’t have the income as a college student to collect them.
So until I make the disposable income to start a decent collection, I will be waiting for many titles to become available for download.

Persona 4! I just downloaded Persona 3 and I'm having a blast!
I would love to be able to download ALL of the classic Squaresoft 16-bit games. Especially Mario RPG.
Short, new, cheap titles, possibly indie.
Pokemon Red, Blue, Green. Back in those days, the series was beautiful. Now, just what the f***. BRING IT ALL BACKKKK !!!
mostly really niche japanese games ( mostly rpgs, with at least text translations and maybe some visual novels/dating sims)plus some old GBA games cause i missed alot of great ones when i was younger. this is of course aside from the great indie games we've been geatting that i tend to be a sucker for due to creativity and lower price.
kingdom hearts 3
Jade cocoon 2. I would say more, but I already wrote a blog about it.
Killer Instinct as a downloadable on Xbox and all the NES Final Fantasy games on 3DS E-shop thats all I could ask for.
I want to play Earthbound and also the upcoming Ascend. I would also like System Shock 2 on XBLA.
Skies of Arcadia, Digital Devil Saga (and it's sequel), and the PS2 Devil Summoner games.
Wow, Brave Fencer Musashi...I thought I was the only person who remembered that game. I was just thinking about it a few days ago. I was young when I played it and remember having a great time with it before I had to return it to blockbuster. I wonder if it holds up today?
I think any old title that goes above $100 should be re-released as a downloadable game. Like FF7 and Xenogears was.
