The lights are on
Lately, I have struggled with splitting my time between playing current titles and playing older ones. Too many games exist that I never tried out – either because I wasn’t old enough to hold a controller or because I just didn’t play a title around its release window.
Most recently, I desperately want to play the classic RPG Earthbound. Not only do I not own an SNES, I also don’t have $200 to drop on a copy of the game. Thankfully, the title will be coming to Virtual Console, making the adventure more accessible to those who missed it the first time around.
Playing classics at a reduced price has become even more common with the growing number of downloadable titles available on PSN, XBLA, Steam, and Nintendo’s Virtual Console. But, many are still left out of the loop.
Not only is this an issue with older games, but also with downloadable versions that have not been imported. For example, I have previously mentioned my love of Brave Fencer Musashi. That title is available on the Japanese PlayStation store for a reasonable 600 yen – roughly six dollars. This is undeniably a much more affordable option than tracking down a copy on eBay.
Even when the older games I want to play are not outrageously priced because of their rarity, they are often priced similarly to current-gen titles. Although I would like to play many older titles and broaden my gaming knowledge, I have a very hard time convincing myself it is worth the extra money. I play games; I don’t have the income as a college student to collect them.
So until I make the disposable income to start a decent collection, I will be waiting for many titles to become available for download.
What games would you like to see remade or re-released for download? Share your picks in the comments.
I went looking.... The game is actually cost's $200 for a used copy. I'm amazed. What is going on here?
Alien Vs Predator the Arcade Game would fully complete my Acrcade collection (now that D&D was released).
What am I saying, ignore my other comments (actually dont ), I WANT A PROPER PORT OF TURTLES IN TIME!!!
As far as I'm concerned, the Virtual Consoles should be absolutely loaded with almost every classic game through Nintendo's history--and Sega's for that matter. It would be nice if they all cost about a buck or two less, but at least Nintendo allows and does sales now.
Since we're moving into an all-digital future, I rather like that every game is also available for download, as well as retail now. I'm old school and a collector, so I like my physical copies--but sometimes, like with the new Animal Crossing, digital just makes more sense.
I need Super Mario RPG for the WII U VC ASAP!!!!!
Super Nintendo has some of my favorite games ever on it. Wii U VC has Mega Man X on there but there is still one other game I'd like to see.
I would love to be able to play Jet Force Gemini on my ps3. Flying around as Floyd would be so much fun.
I would love to see every Castlevania game in the series available for download on all platforms with achievements / trophies.
Alisia Dragoon & Gunstar Heroes! :D
Zombies ate my neighbors for 3ds or Vita.
for xbla i want knights of the old republic or remastered versions of classic res. evils
Persona 4 (ps2) on psn for $10
I want Digimon World 3 and Dark Cloud on PSN
Fatal frame 4. On PSN. Dubbed or subbed in English.
Morrowind. I've got Oblivion and Skyrim, but I really want to get my hands on Morrowind.
Ghouls N Ghosts on Steam would be the best thing ever.
I must say, I've been enjoying Valve games more and more as I age, being able to play the first Half Life (for the first time I might add) would cross one item off of my bucket list, I'd have it done, but sadly, my computer is awful, so I predominantly play on my 360. Final Fantasy VII is another game I've missed out on... an uncensored Conker game for download, or a No More Heroes port to the 360 would be wonderful too...
HD remakes of GC games on WiiU, Shadow of Rome on PS3, Ottogi 1, and 2, and Panzer Dragon Orta on XBox Live.
