The lights are on
In issue 242, we asked readers what their favorite controller is. The Xbox 360 beat out the DualShock 3 by a modest margin, though most acknowledged the problems with Microsoft's d-pad. Here are some of the responses.

Coming from someone who was raised on Sony and Nintendo consoles I have to say that the Xbox 360 controller is probably the best except I wish it had an internal rechargeable battery like the Dualshock 3 and that the D-Pad wasn't so flimsy. And if they had to keep the battery pack I wish that Microsoft had done with the 360 controller what they're doing with the Xbox One's: embedding it inside the controller so that way it doesn't jut out from the back and get in the way of stray fingers.
The 360 is hands down the best controller I've ever used(pun intended is not a bit forced). Second would be the Game Cube's, the spiritual predecessor in my mind. I always disliked the way that the dual shock, after experiencing the magic of the 360's feel, felt like the shoulder buttons were reversed. L1 and R1 to aim and fire? Anathema I say!
Michael Mullin...you're killing me, Smalls.
This sentence is the epitome of PC gamers.
"Keyboard and mouse...DUH!!! And why? Having absolute control over my game is paramount."
xbox controlller is for sure the best i do however, like playstations also but its way to small and the xbox controller fits perfectly and the new rumble will be awesome.
I've always like the Xbox 360 controller maybe just because i've gotten used to it. My only problem was the d-pad but I like what Microsoft did with the chrome series control.
I'm a PlayStation girl to the end, but I love the 360 controller. Just more comfortable for first person games when the analog sticks are staggered.
If PS3 controller and Xbox 360 controller had a baby it would be the perfect controller. Xbox 360's Triggers, size, and analog stick placement with PS3's buttons, bumpers and DPad
SNES still wins it for me. I miss concave buttons :( when did that become a bad thing?
360 controller and the sega saturn..those are the best controllers in the industry imho
Easy choice for me. I'm not a person who plays one console. I've owned them all, played them all. I've mastered them all. And not one of them comes close to the near perfection of the 360 controller. The XBone controller (removing the bulky battery pack on the back, and d-pad fix) seems to guarantee that streak will stay alive for me. There is a reason multi-console demo's at shows are always done with a 360 controller. It. Just. Feels. Right.
The Wavebird! That controller would trigger no problem without any lag during a time when wireless controllers really sucked.
Plus, the buttons felt great and the springy sound of the shoulder buttons was oddly rewarding (at least to me anyway).
Wow, unless I passed it or didn't see it... the Sega Dreamcast controller has always been my favorite. Despite the fact that the controller lacked duel joysticks, I thought that it was a very unique and awesome controller. I loved the fact it has the VMU (Virtual Memory Unit) slots along with a 2nd slot for another, or a rumble pack. It was a very innovative controller for its time. It's just too bad the timing for the release of this console was it's inevitable downfall.
Oh also, I like the mouse and keyboard as well! Having that much control in a game is just supreme!
I choose myself because with the magic of the Kinect, I am the controller.
Well, there is a special place in my heart for the older controllersbut the first place is for N64, GameCube, DreamCast and XBox controller S; second place go for XBox 360, third for Dualshock PS2 and Virtual Boy controller (remember that?). I haveto play WiiU and DualShock PS3/PS4 and XB-1. But in the other hand, I always had passed on Sega consoles for their controllers, they seem so stiff.
360 controller is still the best.
