The lights are on
Since the former Call of Duty developers at Respawn lost all their tech during the messy divorce with Activision, the team had to start from scratch by heavily modifying Valve's Source engine and jumping from a modern military setting to science fiction. That makes Titanfall's debut at E3 all the more impressive. With no previous tech base to pull from and facing stiff competition from heavily iterated franchises like Battlefield 4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Call of Duty, Respawn still took away top honors thanks to Titanfall's fluid aiming and mobility and inventive approach to blending single- and multiplayer.
The beautiful game lives up to its name on next-generation consoles. Playable behind closed doors despite being several months away from release on two brand-new consoles, FIFA 14 was the darling of the sports games at E3. Crowds feel more alive than any other sports sim to date, and thanks to many tweaks under the hood, the fidelity of control has been improved in relation to passing, shooting, heading, and defending. If FIFA 14 is any indication, EA Sports is poised to erase its tarnished reputation when it comes to transitioning to new consoles.
TOTAL WAR: ROME II
Creative Assembly is taking a two-pronged approach to improving its already stellar Total War series. To better assist players in managing their sprawling empires, Rome II streamlines troop recruitment, city-state management, diplomacy, and trade without sacrificing the depth for which the series is known. To improve the cinematic feel of the large-scale real-time strategy battles, the developer allows you to zoom the camera right into the fray to make you feel like you are standing shoulder to shoulder with your infantry as they violently clash with the enemy. Judging from our time with the game at E3, these tactics are working in tandem to make Rome II the must-play strategy game of 2013.
OCULUS RIFT HD
The eyes of the gaming world were focused squarely on new consoles this
year, but those that donned the Oculus Rift HD headset had another impressive
piece of hardware to rave about. The
amazing 1080p prototype unit showcased Unreal Engine 4, but even the standard-def Eve dogfighting demo
wowed those that played it. We wouldn't be surprised to see many VR skeptics become believers
when Oculus VR eventually releases a consumer version of the hardware.

I'm way more excited for The Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 2 than for Titanfall. It looks better than Calladooty, but I don't know how excited I can get over another multiplayer FPS, innovative or not.
Dead Rising 3 is the best Xbox One exclusive? That game looked horrible..... Just another played out zombie game as usual. TitanFall didn't look all that exciting or impressive. Of course FPS games are played out these days and I'm jist tired of seeing them. That game will be stale and boring after a couple months.
Forza 5 or Driveclub should've been best racer, but great list nevertheless.
I personally thought Destiny should of got best shooter...
I agree with all of these, I was pleasantly surprised by Titan Fall
"poster child for next-gen gaming." For real? It looked alright, but The Witcher 3 and Watch Dogs look much more next-gen than Titanfall. I have a feeling that award had something to do with the fact that Titanfall was their last cover game.
Epic list!!! I luv you, GameInformer!!!!
I am very excited for titanfall
What?! No Battlefield 3.5?
Titanfall, my ass.
i agree with everything except game of show i would have gone with Infamous Second Son
No Destiny? I'm super disappointed now.
Seeing that Titanfall didn't show that much about the game, and the fact that Destiny looks like it is on a much larger scale I would say Titanfall was given a little bit to much credit, I think it was mainly because it is new and there was to much hype for it. If Destiny was released at E3 then its story and idea would have wowed everyone like Titanfall.
I can't agree with best in show....
Witcher 3 my game of the show, seriously game looks freaking insane not to mention Destiny as shooter of the show for me. I respect GI though and always love reading these articles, different people have different opinions was all good for we the gamers though. 2014 is shaping up to be a phenomenal year for gaming first year of next gen and there's still so much to theorize about that we will see then. PS4 I'm expecting greater things by this time next year :).
BTW say greater cause it already looks great!
