The lights are on
After Rare gave Donkey Kong his own game and crafted a 3D model of Pierce Brosnan for Goldeneye, the developer made a cinematic sci-fi shooter called Jet Force Gemini.
It was the true start of the popular helmeted-space-soldier-alien-shooter motif nearly two years before Halo released on the Xbox. Jet Force Gemini was an innovative game in many ways, with optional surround sound audio, widescreen presentation, and a story with three simultaneous narratives occurring across different locations around the universe. You might be able to count the frame rate on one hand, but when it released right at the end of the Nintendo 64's life, it was a fairly impressive adventure.
This week's Replay Roulette is also very exciting, with a game that had some very strange localization choices.

It would be great to get Rare making games again. Not a fan of Killer Instinct, but a new Perfect Dark, Kameo, Jet Force Gemini... Would be nice.
This game is one of my all time favorites. Never finished it, but I played a TON of this game as a kid. Stupid tribal mission at the end...lol
Ahhh, vintage Rare. They really need to get back to making real games.
Great Replay! I always confuse Jet Force Gemini and Jet Set Radio. I had a friend who had a N64 and a Dreamcast and he had both of those games. I could never remember which was which lol.
Never heard of this one, should be interesting.
This is the one Rare game that I never played during the N64 era, I would love to hunt down a copy and try it out sometime. As for Rare's next game, I think a spiritual successor to this would be awesome; a semi-cartoony, sci-fi action game, count me in. In any event, I hope during the next generation we see a return to form from Rare.
I love this game I wish they would bring it back in some shape, form or fashion.
This game was amazing. I loved all the weapons they had, its funny how they were all pistols. And if I remember correctly they had achievements for head shots and such. I wish I would've been able to beat the game but I just couldn't find that last damn bear.
I loved this game, but I think it's ESRB rating was WAY off.
