The lights are on
Crystal Dynamics is best known for their work on Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, and Gex. One of their Playstation titles is rarely talked about when discussing the company's history, and that's the action platformer Akuji the Heartless. We were curious to revisit the title to see if it was an underappreciated gem, so we picked it for this week's Replay.
Click below to watch Andrew Reiner, Tim Turi, Robotoki president Robert Bowling, and myself take control of Akuji for the first time in over a decade.

Reiner FTW! Indigo Prophecy!
There is something about Akuji that reminds me of Crash Bandicoot on PlayStation mixed with a silent death metal dream. Strange.
This game was very good but unfortunately it was extremely hard, i can say that this game is harder than Soul Reaver and Crash Bandicoot, even using Gameshark or Codejunkies is still very difficult to beat the game.
I never heard of this, but looks very interesting. Another great episode.
Lmao, showdown games should always be that bad, in tradition of replay
Boom Blox rules! One of the best examples of motion gaming ever made. It would be great to see THAT kind of functionality and puzzle solving implemented into a proper adventure game. Walk up to something (in a traditional 3rd person game, with normal controller inputs) and then it switches to first person and you'd get to mess with it and manipulate it (with, say, Kinect)? That would be awesome:) Such a fun multiplayer game. It's astounding that stupid Angry Birds did some of the same things, years later, strictly in 2D, and blew up. But Steven Spielberg's super fun game? Pretty much ignored. Weird how this industry works sometimes.
Great game for the Showdown though!
awesome outcomes on the showdown that small soldiers game was hilarious
Congrats to Jeff and Reiner! Although, I'm sad to see Bully go down...
... i think video boy missed a swear. 39:12. "how the... how the f*** does that happen?"
Reiner might just be the best Small Soldiers player I've ever seen, and I've seen all two of them.
I played this game when it first came out and remember thinking it was pretty below average for it's time. Felt like a rushed project. I completely agree however, that Legacy of Kain needs a new generation reboot. I would buy that in a heart beat.
Replay Silent Hill The Room.
the result of boom blox just sucked. one person messes up, and that eliminates two people. total bs. the other person that got kicked off should get a redemption game. at least crash bash had everyone fighting at the same time
I'm content with the outcome of the Juba/Reiner match. We can't have Joe making it further than Dan, can we? Besides, I intend to play Bully one day, so I'd rather watch a Super Replay of Indigo Prophecy (a great game, in my opinion).
Oh. My. Word. I actually remember seeing the Small Soldiers Movie, and then playing the PS1 game, and really enjoying itI It would seem that it hasn't aged well ... but congrats to Jeff and Reiner!
See this is one of the best things i remember about the PS1 era- DEMOS. Some games came with many different demos plus some lasted long than many demos today.
This was a neat game for this episode. I had no idea Akuji The Heartless existed. It actually did not look that bad but I would never play it. Also it was cool having Robert Bowling on here. The Super Replay Showdown was really fun to watch. Hanson picked a very entertaining game for the Jeff C vs. Jeff M vs. Tim round. I am sad to see Tim lose though because he was one of the backup winners I was hoping to see. I am interested in Jeff's Ninja Gaiden Super Replay though. Jeff Cork, I would have liked to see Chibi as well. Hanson, the Small Soldiers game was an awesome pick! I have actually been wanting this to be in a Replay! It was kind of funny because in this whole episode, the Akuji game actually reminded me of the Small Soldiers game. Joe you put up a good fight but Reiner I am glad to see you win! That was a crazy win and you dominated. Really enjoyed this. Can't wait till next week.
I loved the super replay showdown am sadden that Tim lost but happy that Reiner won.
Ah, old Crystal...
