The lights are on
Crystal Dynamics is best known for their work on Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, and Gex. One of their Playstation titles is rarely talked about when discussing the company's history, and that's the action platformer Akuji the Heartless. We were curious to revisit the title to see if it was an underappreciated gem, so we picked it for this week's Replay.
Click below to watch Andrew Reiner, Tim Turi, Robotoki president Robert Bowling, and myself take control of Akuji for the first time in over a decade.

Congrats to both winners in the Super Replay Showdown!
Yes! Reiner made it past the first round! Hanson picks the most hilarious games. It will never not be entertaining. :D
If Ben wanted a mech way not choose something from the Armored Core series?
I know a majority of those games have some sort of versus mode
Didn't expect Tim to exit that quickly, but congrats to JeffM and Ninja Gaiden, and Reiner and Indigo Prophecy. (You better win this whole thing, Reiner:) )
Great show guys. I hate to see Joe get knocked out of the competition. I really wanted to see a Super Replay of Bully.
man that second showdown was funny as hell! more games like that!
Finally you guys tackle one of these games! By "these games" I of course mean the "mature platformer". The PSX/N64 era was loaded with 'em, and they were relatively popular if I remember correctly. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, ShadowMan, Akuji here... eventually I think Primal was the last one to do this sort of thing (PS2) and the subgenre mostly fizzled out. But they were all HUGE for awhile there, in '97-'99. It's amazing you were able to go so long without playing one of 'em!
If you're looking for obscure Crystal Dynamics stuff, don't forget Whiplash. Their PS2 non-Gex 3D platformer about two lab animals - a weasel and a rabbit - chained together while they make their escape, and where the Weasel (the player character) whips the rabbit around like a living weapon because he can't be killed thanks to whatever they experimented on him with.
"Nobody listens to losers, so..." Classic comeback, Hanson :D
This game needs to be in PSN Classics. Now. Along with Gex 2
Yeah!! Joe, you just got Reinered!
I hope Reiner wins. I was checking out Indigo Prophecy on XBL just before they started the showdown. If reiner wins I can save 10 bucks.
Awesome replays, im really happy about who won in the showdowns.
Hangtime with a masterful Jenga performance! Win it all!
I really enjoyed seeing Mr. Bowling on this week's episode! You guys should have him on again sometime. :D
Akuji the Heartless actually looks pretty fun. I would've liked that game when it came out.
Live or Let Die was one of the worst 007 movies (along with the next one, The Man With the Golden Gun). Tremors is an awesome movie franchise, and the TV show was decent.
Nightmare Creatures was one of my favorite PlayStation games. Love to see a Super Replay of it or its inferior (and really strange) DreamCast sequel.
Ah, Boom Blox. The forgotten Steven Spielberg take on Jenga. It was a good pick for the Showdown, though I would've rather seen Tim win so we could get some Dino Crisis 2.
Wow, Toy Soldiers the game. Just...wow. Reiner pulling off the win was great since I'd love to see Indigo Prophecy, but I'd also have loved to see Bully.
I want a Reeves vs. Reiner final, shame Juba and Reiner met in the first round.
this game is so good, i remember it has a demo of Soul reaver and tomb raider...
I remember playing this game on the PS1, but for some reason it had no music. It was okay, but not as charming as Soul Reaver.
