The lights are on
If you're on this site, chances are you can hum a good amount of game music just off of memory. Hell, plenty of people who have never played a game in their life can instantly recognize the Mario theme. However, things aren't always as pleasant as exploring Zelda's overworld while listening to sweeping, iconic tunes. We've all had times in which we've scrambled to the options menu to turn music down or even turn the damn game off. Here's our big list of the biggest offenders.
The Adventures of Rad Gravity - Title Screen (NES)
We'll start with one of the worst tracks on this entire list, but it's also one that several of us have become weirdly fond of after repeated viewings.
Mario Party 2 - Honeycomb Havoc (Nintendo 64)
This one doesn't start out offensively bad, but the looping tune becomes gradually more annoying as you play this luck-filled minigame.
Doom - The Imp's Song (32X)
This sounds like a smoke detector going off while a car sits outside with its bass turned up too high.
Gears of War - Cole Train rap (Xbox 360)
Ending credits raps were lame even when Tone Loc did it for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Cole Train's rap after the first Gears of War was not an exception.
Resident Evil: Director's Cut - Mansion Basement (PSone)
According to the top YouTube comment, this track sounds like "Charlie Brown's parents having sex." That comment isn't wrong.

I personally thought the rap at the end of Gears of War was pretty funny, and Avenged Sevenfold is awesome
So, besides those mishaps in the music out of all the Sonic games; everything else is awesome, fantastic and full of f****** win!
Dan, man... You might want to do some research before you spout ***. Avenged Sevenfold has been around for 14 years, and they're pretty big. Calling them a 'horsecrap band that no one will remember five years' is pretty damn ignorant.
Now, the video is pretty lame, and A7X used to be considerably more metal, but still. Way to *** that one up. I guess you should be glad more GI readers aren't into their genre.
Hey, I liked the ending credits for Black Ops II!
He just had to take a shot at sonic. The sonic music is great to listen to.
I love the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack! That was so awesome! One of my fondest game memories from my young years.
Such hatred. The Pumpkin Hill Rap in Sonic Adventure 2 was a minor anomaly in what was otherwise an outstanding soundtrack, particularly the rap tracks, which are still catchy today. I think the rapper's name was Hunnid-P? I wish Sega would bring him back to do tracks for more of their games. The flair and swagger he brought to the Knuckles theme music really helped define Knuckles in the sonic universe.
I love great rap and hip hop music. This is why I had to stand up for Sonic Adventure 2. Even the Pumpkin Hill song grows on you after a while, although the level itself is dreadful.
I'm slightly disappointed that you picked the intro music over the House Special of Cruisn' USA. It sounds like it came straight out of a bad porn movie.
Great read overall (and some painful listening, as most of these songs make my ears hurt). As a Avenged Sevenfold fan, I must disagree with "Carry On" being on the list. Sure, it is not as good as most of the songs that A7X has put out or the songs that Elena Siegman has sung for World at War/Black Ops, but it could have been worse.
Hated the street fighter 4 main menu music so annoying man.
I honestly wish I wouldn't have even SEEN the MvC 2 one, stuck in your head so easy, so painfully annoying
Phew. Good. They didn't make fun of the Sonic tracks I like. I can't say I remember the Pumpkin Rap, though. But Escape from the City was the bomb. And Live and Learn, too. You know, that final boss battle song.
Oh hell no! A7X and the Cole Train rap should not be on this list.
You know what the biggest surprise was? Finding Dan's Name tied to the article. I'm sure he just used Tim. Every time Dan asked Tim "What was that annoying song from (insert game here) and (insert pertinent level here)?"
Tim (without looking it up) just pulls it out of his head. he seems like he's that big into videogame music that there isn't anyone that could challenge him. Of course Dan used the internet to verify Tim's answers (even though we all know he was correct 100% of the time), but Dan's a professional journalist. Or at least that's what GI has lead me to believe from extensive video/audio recordings.
I vote for this. Anyone?
GAME OVER YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH
"Gonna take you for a ride!" ;) Glad they added this on the list. Is it even considered a song though? haha
When they say in Double Dribble "makes this sound like this", they mean the guy singing it makes Roseanne sound like the late Whitney Houston. I know it's bad, but I might not go that far. Seriously, you have to hear her. She'll make your ears bleed. Roseanne I mean.
