Test Chamber – Aliens: Colonial Marines

We had high hopes for Gearbox's latest game, Aliens: Colonial Marines. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a disaster. Watch as Dan, Reiner, and I wade through the game for a while and see for yourself.

Between AI issues, baffling story decisions, and moment-to-moment combat that simply isn't fun, it's hard to recommend this one to anybody. Check it out for yourself in our new Test Chamber. For a more in-depth analysis of the game, be sure to read my review.

  • i honestly didn't think anything of this since we couldn't see gameplay, always a bad sign.. guys just pick up natural selection 2 on steam for 25 bucks, it's the best aliens vs humans in space ship experience on pc i think
  • I think Gearbox is the new Lionhead. Randy Pitchford is the sweet talking con man who says things that are too good to be true; he promises amazing things. Meanwhile, behind the curtains, the developers rush their over-hyped products and all of those promises are shattered leaving a terrible mess.
  • Wow that AI is something.

  • Pure garbage. Took me 3 hours to beat. Pure, unadulterated garbage. Story blew, AI is brain-dead, horrible visuals on max, floaty gunplay, and "emotional" moments that make Resident Evil 6 look like Journey. Go buy DS3 if you want Sci-Fi horror. This is pathetic. Way to go Gearbox. Way to go.
  • Holy crap that's bad. I'm just . . . upset. Give me a minute. Guys, don't buy this game. I like the atmosphere and some of the dialogue, but that's about it. As a game, this is truly a bad experience, and I blame the laughable AI for most of the problems. Aliens get stuck in walls. Aliens do a little dance for no reason. Aliens have three other AI controlled marines to attack but they completely ignore them and go only for me. Horrible.
  • hah, I knew this was gonna happen.
  • I would like to see the next Aliens game be in a style similar to Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
  • Kinda surprised at how bad this games did.
  • I had a feeling this game wasn't going to be very good, but I didn't think it would be this bad.
  • Yep, thought this might happen. I wasn't particularly excited about any of the footage they showed before release. Which is too bad, because I, too, love Gearbox Software and Borderlands.

Guess I'll dig out AvP. That one was phenomenal on PC.

  • This is so depressing. I was about to buy this.
  • this really pisses me off i preordered this stupid game because i thought it was going to be at least a decent game. i should of put my preorder for gears instead of this crap. Randy pitchford is a jerk he over hyped this piece of crap. i will never ever buy another game by gearbox ever.
  • Yikes!

  • Hopefully I can cancel my preorder....

GOOD NEWS....THERE IS A NEW BATMAN ARKHAM GAME COMING THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hahaha Ben falling out of his chair? Priceless. Highlight of the video.

  • Question to GI: Are the preview writeups not allowed to talk about a game negatively? This seems like the preview builds should have shown this and would not have to go haggle Gamestop this morning to change my preorder.
  • 3 things, gearbox, love em or leave em, aren't exactly known for there stellar A.I. as fun as borderlands is the enemies are kinda special needs children who whether creature or human plow mindlessly toward you like a person who wants to comit suicide by threatening a cop with a gun, so I guess we shouldnta really expected too much. That said I have been really looking foward to this as I do for anything in the xeno franchose, but this is not the only lack luster review on the net.
2.Second thing wasn't there another sega liscenced Alien game in development, that's Been being treated like a red headed step child since this schlok was announced. What happened to that.
    3. Lastly I really wanted to hear what jeff had to say at the end of the video about gearbox's release date for the WiiU version, I'm not a huge WiiU fan but I still admit the version with the best potential was the one having the constant ping of the motion detector in my hands on the touchscreen. It sounded like fun. What were you going to say?
