Test Chamber – Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3 is out today, and Isaac Clarke has an hard adventure before him on the frozen surface of Tau Volantis. Before he gets there, however, he has to navigate the lonely silence of space doing repair missions. This video preview takes a look at the open-ended, zero-gravity section of the game prior to Tau Volantis.

For those suiting up and heading out into the deadly reaches of space today, check out our survival tips for Dead Space 3.

  • Can I start with this one or will I be lost?
  • Getting it from Gamefly so excited

  • I'll reserve judgement until I play the game, can't believe Turi dismissed Zombiu, it brought back survival horror and he didn't like it... btw, ubisoft left a message in the game saying they are patching the game. Cool stuff!

  • The game needs some patching if you have a PC. but other than that, it's a win for EA. STORY= A+, User Inter-phase= C+ (EA please take some pointers from STEAM, they got it right, you do not.)

  • The review and this Test Chamber have convinced me to buy this game. I was going to buy it as a gift for my brother anyways, who is a massive DS fan, and I think I'm going to get into it for the co-op play.

  • Tim, I just want to say that I respect your opinion on this game. I haven't played the game yet. So, I am not going to go on about how the demo was to much like an action film or how convoluted the story has become. I refuse to do this simply because I don't know. After reading your review and hearing you talk about this game, I can really hear an excitement in your voice. The entire GI staff makes me want to play games. Not because your opinions are always my opinions, but because your genuine excitement for the medium is infectious. Thanks for doing what you do. If I had faith that video game journalism was a viable career for myself, you and the rest of the GI staff would be a big reason I pursued that dream. I hope you read this Tim. Keep doing what you do. Jeremy
  • I know I'm going to get flack for this, but I don't really care. I pirated this game because of the business practices. If Visceral shows me that they've made a fantastic game, I'll buy it. But I really don't want to support EA on this one.
  • The thing about Game Informer though that makes you trust and believe them is that they do videos like this. After watching Replays and all the other good stuff I feel like I know these people and so when I read their reviews I can really tell that they mean it. Then if there's ever any doubt I look for a good ol' Test Chamber and I listen to (in this case) Tim tell me all about it. You can just hear the excitement in his voice. I've never disagreed with a Game Informer review and I know that that will continue far into the future.
  • Reiner always seems super appreciative of us watching their videos. I think that after watching three hours of Dan vs. Tyson, we proved that we'll watch ANYTHING GI does. Anyway, game looks cool. I'm worried that Tim's playthroughs of terrible survival horror games have colored his opinion a bit on these sorts of games. But it seems neat and I'm definitely interested in the co-op.
  • Epic win.

  • Dead Space 3 has been getting mixed reviews, with most negative comments being about the story.  As a big Dead Space fan, I think it looks great and can't wait to play it.

  • Man, this game looks awesome!!

  • The game looks awesome, might get this one.

  • Fantastic Test Chamber! That open space sequence pretty much settles the fact that I need to get this sooner rather than later.

  • Looks really good! :P

  • Reading some of the below comments has made me realize that, yes, these video "post-reviews" really do influence my decision to purchase certain games. I've bought games that have received high, glowing reviews that I just simply didn't care for. I appreciated that they were well made games, but I just couldn't fall in love with them. Test Chambers (and even Replays) on the other hand give me a much better sense of what a game is about and what I can expect. In all honesty, I have yet to regret a purchase I've made for which a Test Chamber was the final factor in my decision.

  • Okay, Tim. Go watch Firefly and Serenity over the next weekend.

  • Loved the demo. Can't wait to pick this up.

  • this really made me interested in dead space. it raised a lot of questions for me about the plague and stuff. It kind of sounds like bioshock or kind of the theme except in space instead of under water. very cool!

  • This game looks great. This would be the Dead Space game to get into if I haven't played one in the series. I would love to play this cooperatively. Really cool look at the whole outside space scenery. Good Test Chamber.
