Designing The Stark Tower Level in Lego Marvel Super Heroes

With a healthy mix of action and puzzles, the Lego games have refined their level design with every new game. The wealth of characters in Lego Marvel Super Heroes gives the designers plenty of options when designing puzzles and obstacles for the player to overcome. While visiting Traveller's Tales in England for the cover story, we spoke to assistant game director Steve Sharples about Lego level design and how they created the stage based on Stark Tower.

Watch the video below to see an early version of the game in action and to learn more about Captain America and Tony Stark's journey through the iconic Marvel building.

  • This game is gunna be awesome.
  • I started out learning about development through level design, so I can really appreciate what he's getting at here. It takes a surprising amount of work to make a good level -- it's something most people don't consider when they're playing a game. Most of the best maps go through dozens if not hundreds of iterations just to get them balanced, let alone getting them to be fun and fluid.

That all said... I always found TT's level design in LEGO Star Wars (and etc) to be a bit formulaic after a while. I'm glad to see they're looking at trying to break from the mold, as you can usually predict what's going to happen next if you've played even just one of the other LEGO games.

Also -- music got a bit repetitive towards the end. That said, TY Ben for responding to my comment about the one vid -- it's nice to see the staff reply to comments.

  • Definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year. My wife loves to play co-op on these which is great fun!

  • Realize this might be a bit too much to hope, but any chance the mods could give us a definitive answer on to whether or not this will be voiced?
  • This game sounds like its going to be a blast.

  • my neighbor's ex-wife makes $71 every hour on the laptop. She has been out of work for five months but last month her pay was $17243 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Here's the site to read more...Amazingjob3.Buzz70.com

  • This games looks cool.  I know my son will enjoy it like every other Lego game I have.  I think the only Lego game he doesn't have is LotR.  That will be remedied soon because he still has Xmas money and wants that game.
