Super Replay – Blue Stinger

Over the last couple of years, the Replay crew has introduced a new installment of Super Replay on New Year's Eve. We continue this tradition this year with a game we hope captures the same spirit of the "classic" Overblood games.

Blue Stinger is a survival horror game that launched alongside the Dreamcast in 1999. Join Eliot Blahblahblah and our new best friend Dogs Bower on an amazing trip to Dinosaur Island. Raise a Hassy with Matt Helgeson, Dan Ryckert, Tim Turi, and I, as we kick off an epic new Super Replay chapter.

  • Awesome! A new Super Replay series just in time for the new year.

  • The Dollar General Dead Space!

  • I could sure use a Hassy right now
  • AHH HELL YAAH.

  • Yay!  Time for stupidity!

  • At last!

  • This looks like a great Super Replay so far. We need more stories as well, feel sorry for Muffin Girl.

  • Finally! Woot woot!

  • -Ha, I love that we just got an instant "SHUT UP!" from Reiner as Matt started talking over the first cutscene.
-That is a lot of billboards on that island Eliot wakes up on... maybe he's on Billboard Island? Crossover?
-Hmm, Eliot also has a codec, it seems.
-Actually, Dan would probably say "I'm by a pier-thingy."
-The sniper lady looks like a Sniper Wolf/Ada Wong hybrid.
-Hmm, 23 episodes of walking around lost... you guys better not fake-glitch this game at all.
-There are going to be so many Dogs puns on this Super Replay. I hope Ben will be on one of these. I really want to see what he comes up with. "We've got the Dogs, Indiana."
-A timed sequence at the beginning? Grab the vest, Tim! It's really cold in there.
-Also, Tim got run over by a train. There are so many Overblood references in this.
-Man, that story just makes me feel bad for Ben Hanson... can you tell another story that just makes him sound dumb?
-Oh man, I wonder if Tim will end up hating this game more than Cyberia.
-I kinda worry that those Hassys are going to be as sparse as Herbs in Resident Evil.

Okay, amazing first episode. I'm convinced that you're playing as Ben Hanson in this game, trying to get his muffin girl. That sounds like what the plot will end up being, is Ben's Redemption.

Also, Dan, I'm calling you out here: I want you to yell "HASSY CAN STAMP" in a future episode.
  • NEW SUPER REPLAAAAY. Since I'm going back to class soon this is the perfect thing to get me through the weeks.

  • I loved this game when it first came out. Reminded me of a cross between Parasite Eve and Resident Evil.
  • Not only was it great to have a new Super Replay but the chatter and comments throughout most of this episode had me laughing hysterically.  I cannot wait for the next one.

  • This was an awesome first episode. It seemed like you guys were a lot more focused on getting through the game while still maintaining the hilarious banter. Also, it's great to actually hear some of the cutscenes this time around. We might have missed out on Elliot Hanson's lady troubles otherwise.

  • Awesome. Cant wait to see how this goes, or, in other words goes down a blaze of hellstone and fire

  • Oh, replay. How silly you are.

  • You guys should check out Illbleed as either a Replay or Roulette in the future sometime, as it's another Dreamcast game created by Climax Graphics (under the new name Crazy Games) and is rather similar to Blue Stinger (it might also make up for your disappointment from D2). Also, if you want another sci-fi game that has you fighting monsters around Christmas time, I recommend Hybrid Heaven, which you did as a roulette for the Quest 64 Replay. And don't forget that Galerians has that PS2 sequel that needs to be done before Cyberia 2 as a Super Replay. I also have some interesting information regarding Overblood 2's sound problem. The reason it was skipping a lot and out of sync was because you were too cheap to buy an actual PAL PlayStation. You see, the Pal versions run their games about 12% slower than the NTSC versions, but the sound remains the same at all times. I've seen the cutscenes run smoothly without any hitches on YouTube (no emulators used). So don't go choking the guys in charge of the sound, it wasn't THEIR fault at all.
  • WOOOO! FINALLY!

First off, I didn't know you guys introduced these on New Years. Now I won't be as impatient waiting for them:)

Secondly, thank you for just embedding the Youtube version! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I hate your player GI, I really do. But I love your videos. It's a conundrum...

  • Oh man, this was one of the funniest episodes of any replay yet. DOGS. BOWER. I was laughing hysterically the whole time.

Also, that story makes me feel bad for Ben. He's a good looking bro.
  • This is a good start the new year.

  • Never in my wildest dreams would I believe that there was a game to top Overblood.....Blue Stinger is that game.
