Reader Discussion: Your Go-To Games

We've reached that horrible time of year, when the holidays suck out your soul and the big games have stopped coming out. What's a person to do in dire times like these?

This is the time when you reach back into your collection and pull out that old favorite – that game that you can always pop in and play when you're desperate for a smile.

Maybe it's a game that's so large that you're still struggling to get 100% or maybe it has a lot of replay value even though you've beat it a zillion times.

Whatever your reasoning, in the comments section below we want to hear what about your ol' standby games that you keep returning to.

  • Assassins Creed 3, Black Ops 2, Halo 3, and more Dark Souls DLC. Maybe even throw in some Borderlands 2, I need to finish the campaign. Always Battlefield 3 too. I cant seem to get away
  • SimCity 4 for the PC

Any simulation game is great to play every so often and just experiment building great cities...and having a giant monster destroy it.

  • the original final fantasy
  • Finish the ones I have now that I haven't beat from the overflow that is fall, and also play ones I get for Xmas, to hold me over until Dead Space 3.
  • final fantasy 9. cause its the best
  • I'm just going to stick to Halo 4.

  • Staff
    Ocarina!!!
  • If I have one standby, it would be Ocarina of Time. But I go back and play Zelda and Castlevania games throughout the year.
  • I have way too many unplayed games. So no go to game for me. I got about 50 I bought but not opened.
  • some FF remakes.

  • My current go-to games have been Uncharted 3's co-op and Persona 4 Arena, which is odd for me because I'm awful at fighting games. Resident Evil used to be my go-to but that's died off quite a bit due to the fact that I kind of played it too many times in a short period of time.
Oh, and of course Team Fortress 2. But it seems that my computer can no longer play that game with a decent framerate so that has dropped off as well. :(
  • Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. Something about that game just calls to me. It breaks my heart that the sequel didn't meet it's funding goal through Kickstarter.

I also have more than a thousand hours logged into Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
  • I just play whatever I'm in the mood for.

  • cheesecake! i eat lots of cheesecake!
oh, and just cause 2! but mostly cheesecake!!!
  • Just Cause 2, The Fallouts (1,2,3,&NV) or Star Wars Battlefront 2
  • I am still backlogged from fall. I finished FarCry 3. I am starting Need For Speed Most Wanted now. Then I am going to Borderlands 2. Then I am going to finish Doom 3 that I started from BFG Edition. Also play some Halo 4 multiplayer and more Rock Band 3 within it all.
  • Bastion, Bioshock, Pokemon, Metroid Fusion, Age of Empires, Oblivion, among others.

  • Fallout 3,TES V:Skyrim,CivREV,Fallout: New Vegas,TES IV:Oblivion,TLoZ:Wind Waker,Metroid Prime and TLoZ:Majoras Mask.

These are the games that always keep me coming back even If I have completed them a million times.
  • Portal 2 and fallout 3 for the story and the first modern warfare and halo 3 for multiplayer

  • Civilation IV on the PC, because I can"t afford the new one, any moble Fire Emblem game on my 3DS or GBA, and Assassin's Creed Revelations on the Xbox 360, because I can't afford the new one.
